Chillicothe, IL – W. Jean Schmidt, 89, of Chillicothe died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe.
Jean was born Jan. 11, 1922 in Carbondale, IL to Barney and Beulah (Payne) Nelson. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers Carmen, Winston, Barney, Robert, Richard and Paul; sisters, Nadine Gill and Mary Lou Bornsheuer.
Jean married Frank M. Wright on Nov. 19, 1939. Frank was killed in action in Dec. of 1944 on the beaches of Leyte during General MacArthur's return to the Philippines. She married Robert L. Schmidt on April 10, 1946. He died Jan. 25, 2005.
Jean is survived by sons Frank M. (Vicki) Schmidt of West Baldwin, Maine, Steven P. (Patricia) Schmidt of Mapleton and Daniel L. (Maureen) Schmidt of Groveland. Grandson, Matthew Schmidt and sister, Pauline Sharp also survive, as do many nieces and nephews.
Jean was a career beautician who often volunteered her services to local programs including Heritage Manor. Along with an angelic voice, Jean possessed a remarkable artistic talent for painting and the creation of her "Santas From The Past."
While Chillicothe was Jean's home, she truly loved her stays at Frank and Vicki's summer cottage on Sebago Lake in Maine. Even after raising three sons and their diverse assortment of friends she never lost her sense of humor or willingness to open her door to anyone. Jean never met a stranger.
The family would like to thank the St. Francis Hospice personnel and express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Heritage Manor whose care for Jean will never be forgotten.
Cremation has been accorded. Memorial Services will be in Chillicothe at a later date. Davison-Fulton Anderson Chapel in Chillicothe is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations in Jean's name may be made to Rescue 33 in Chillicothe.
