It seems like John was here for too short a time. I will never forget his "hey darlin' " and his willingness to share a laugh during the work day. He could always be counted on to see the job to completion. With deepest sympathy and love to Leigh Braun.

My heart goes out to you, Leigh. I never had the priviledge to know John but have heard such wonderful stories of what a warm and loving family you two have created, with your adorable furry children. How fortunate you were to have found your true and forever Love, your kindred spirit. I too believe you will meet again one distant day. Until then, take good care, and let those who love you give you the strength and peace you need. Keep your memories close and take comfort in them. And always remember how much you are cherished by your friends.

Sincerely,

Leslie Anne Waugh (Anchor Point, Alaska)

I was a young thing when I worked with John & Leigh at the Washington Post. Both were so kind to me always and we have stayed friends through all of these years. John was a wonderful, kind man and he will truly be missed. I'm sure his spirit is twinkling as he watches over us now.

John reminded me of Clark Gable. He was an incredibly helpful colleague. But more than anything, he had a great smile, that upon seeing it, made me smile. My heart goes out to you Leigh, take some comfort, that wherever he is - your Bogie and Bacall (among others) are loving him!

John was an honest, loving and incredibly caring person. To a novice Postie, John (and Leigh) reached out and kept me from drowning during the first CFC section and many more that followed. He always was level-headed and cool with a smile and a joke to soothe "bang your head here" pressure filled moments. He provided broad shoulders to cry on and hearty laughs on which to soar. It was a joyous occasion to watch him vow his life and love to Leigh. Fond and loving memories of John honor his well-lived life. You are missed.

I met John about eight years ago when he and Leigh walked their lovely little dogs Bogey and Bacall past our house in Riverside Estates. John and Leigh invited me to swim in their pool and join them when they hosted friends over for barbeque on their patio. The neighborhood will not be the same without him. Rest in peace John.

I always thought John was a handsome Marlboro man. When I worked at The Post, John was so nice to me, and made my job and Print & Deliver ads run so smoothly. I am deeply sadden by his passing, and my prayers are with Leigh and John's family.

John entered my life when I was 10 (37 years ago.) There are so many memories that I could share; such as the fact that he would get on the floor and play jacks with me and my friends, and he introduced me to the love of dogs. He helped me get my driver's license, and gave me away at my wedding. He was there when my firstborn arrived into the world (on John's birthday!) and always had the best hugs to greet me. He always told me he loved me. Yes, he was my stepfather, but he was more a "dad." I will truly miss you, John. Love always, Annette (stepdaughter)

So sad to hear of John's passing. I worked very closely with John for over 10 years from the early 80's until 1995. In the mid-80's I was the PrePress Manager and in charge of the Composing Room. John was one of the key people that transferred to the new Ad Production department when it was moved from Composing to Ad Art. He worked very well with me and Raleigh Schein, who was the Advertising Art/Production Manager at that time. John quickly picked up all the new technology and procedures. It was a huge change from the old Raycomp photo composition to building ads on a Mac. Everyone I know enjoyed working with John. He had a good sense of humor and always tried to do the best he could for our sales reps and customers. And just about everyone loved his boots! Lots of great memories! Marty

Always a smile, instead of a frown,
Always a hand, when one was down,
Always true, thoughtful and kind,
Wonderful memories John left behind.

Heartfelt condolences.
