Daniel Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2013.

Dr. Daniel Miles Taylor, D.D.S, M.S.D., passed away the 11th of November 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children. Dan was born in Long Beach, California on April 7, 1950 and was the oldest of four children belonging to Dr. Louis G. and Dorothy Taylor. As a young man, he excelled in sports, and academics, both of which would lead him to success in life.

He completed an undergraduate degree while becoming a two-time Academic All-American playing football for Brigham Young University. After marrying Cynthia Holbrook in Los Angeles, CA the 27th of April 1974, Dan completed the Dental program at the University of Southern California, followed by the Orthodontic program at the University of Washington.

Dan and his family settled near Snohomish, WA where he practiced orthodontics and involved himself in the community. He became president of the Washington State Society of Orthodontics, a member of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, and an adjunct professor of Orthodontics at the University of Washington.

Following his retirement, he and Cindy visited their children making enough memories to last a lifetime. He enjoyed snow skiing, stamp collecting, snorkeling off the beaches in Hawaii, but most of all spending time with his family.

A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dan served a two-year mission to Taiwan as a young man. He would go on to serve in many church service and leadership capacities, inviting people to believe in Jesus Christ.

All those who knew him will miss his patient, kind demeanor, quiet dignity, capacity for action, disciplined approach, and congenial sense of humor.

Daniel is survived by his wife Cynthia, his children; Andrew, Amy, Ann Marie, Christine, Michelle, and Juliana; his mother Dorothy, his siblings; Steven Larkin, Andrew, Suzanne, and David; and his twenty grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 7-9 pm on Friday evening 15th of November at Bauer Funeral Chapel, 701 First Street in Snohomish WA. Services will continue with a viewing on Saturday 9:30 am on the 16th of November, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am. Saturday services will take place at the Everett Stake Center located at 9509 19th Avenue SE, Everett WA. Internment will take place immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA.

Dan was a friend of mine when I joined the church in 1969. Shortly thereafter he was called to a mission to Taiwan. Not long after that I was called to the same mission. We reconnected after our missions and he was a good friend until life sent us in different directions.

I remember Elder Taylor as a young missionary in Taiwan. He was an example to many, teaching and leading in our mission. I extend my love to the family.

DR Taylor was my orthodontist in Snohomish. Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great person and would wave as he went past my home after work in his yellow bug(it was a while ago, I may have the color wrong). Best wishes to his family.

Dan Taylor, mere mortal, was the most Christ-like man I have ever had the privilege to associate with. A man with unquestionable integrity that literally changed my life. I will never forget him. He was a man that touched countless lives and hearts; and now, those lives and hearts will touch many more with the love and influence Dan left with them. We all as a family are deeply grieved at his passing. We send our great love and condolences to you Cindy and to all your fine family.

Cindy, I am so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. Such a vital person at such a young age. You two were definitely made for each other and are two of the most wonderful people I've known. Even though we don't get to see each other, you are often in my thoughts. You will definitely be in my prayers.
Love you always...Sig Jones

Danny was one of my best friends in Anaheim from the age of 6 until I moved to San Diego at 15. We played football together for 6 years. I loved he's family and I was so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great friend to grow up with and I'll never forget him. I proud that my youngest son is named Miles..

So very sorry for the loss of this terrific person. Will Always remember his calm smiling demeanor in high school. He was an exceptional person as is obvious by the words telling of his life and other tributes from friends. My sincere condolences to his family. And friends. Much to young. I know so many will miss him. R.I.P. Danny

Danny was such an important part of my life from 8th grade through our freshman year of college. I will always be grateful that he shared the gospel with me and baptized me into the church. He was an amazing, bright and talented man and I'm sure he will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family who were also great examples to me.

Cindy, I met you at Dan's 60th Class party(you and Dan sat at my table) and then we met again at a gathering at Marri's pizza in Anaheim, when the two of you were down in Southern California. Dan, was such a sweet, honorable person with a gentle smile. I am happy I got to see him again before he died, and meeting you was a pleasure. I hope all the memories you and Dan made through the years keep a smile on your face, and your children and all those beautiful grandchildren hold you close. His life was cut way, way too short and he will be missed by so many loved ones, and his Saxon classmates.

What a wonderful man. Thank you to both Dan and Cindy for supporting me in my education, and helping a young lady feel good on the inside and the outside. Much love to you, Cindy, and the kids.

I worked for Dan in 1981 and I loved working for him. He was the kindest, most patient employer I have ever had. After I married and my 3 sons all needed braces there was no question that Dr. Taylor would be their Orthodontist. Cindy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I will pray that The Lord will guide you through this very difficult time and give you His peace.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I have so many wonderful childhood skiing memories with the Taylor family. Dan was such a loving father and grandfather, one who always exhibited strong moral values. He was a humble man. He was my dad's best friend. My dad loved Dan so much. They had such a good time together, but were also able to relate to one another on a much deeper level, spiritally. When I think of Dan, I think of a rock, spiritually, mentally, and physically. He was trustworthy and reliable in everything that he did. He loved and cared for his family, and he enjoyed being with them and doing fun activities with them. He was a good good man. I knew he loved his wife, his children, and God, just by being around him. He will be greatly missed.

I am sorry to hear the loss of Dr. Taylor. After searching for the best orthodontist for my son Tony, he was the one who could straighten the teeth without pulling any teeth, by using the herbst appliance. He was by far the best in the area and a very nice and humble man. My condolences to the Taylor family. I am sorry for your loss.

I just found out about Dr. Taylor and I'm rather saddened. For years I wanted to come back and show that my teeth were still straight but time went by unfortunately.

He made a very insecure girl become happy with the changes due to my braces. My teeth were borderline horrible - I always laughed with my hand over my mouth. He encouraged me to be strong and wear my "headgear" at school to get it over with faster. I smile with ease in the professional photos with my career in film. Thank you Dr. Taylor. You mean a lot.

I was so sad to hear the news of Dan's passing. He was an amazing man, who raised wonderful children. I have so many fun memories of Dan and the Taylor's, mostly of fun family ski vacations. He will be missed much. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

My father and Dan served missions together and amazingly remained best of friends through the many decades that followed. Annually our families would unite to conquer the slopes of either Tahoe, Bend, or Whistler. How we safely traveled in our Dodge Ram vans all those miles we'll never know...maybe it was Weird Owl Yankovic lyrics that saw us through or likely the weight of all the kids stabilizing the car against the black ice (thanks to the cream of wheat Dan fed us). I gained eight friendships and will forever have etched in my memory all the hilarious and sincere moments because of two friends decided to stay connected despite the geographical divided of Oregon.

If ever I had a second dad it was Dan. He taught me that sacrifice was sometimes required in a friendship. I'm pretty positive early one morning when Dan and Cindy were just about to head home to WA my parents remembered....'Dan was going to check the kids teeth to evaluate their orthodontic needs'! Likely this is what lead to Dan peering into seven kids mouths whilest they slept. I wasn't too happy waking up to flashlight in my mouth, but as an adult I now realize his sacrifice was far greater....morning breath exams!...my post braces smile is forever grateful.

One year Dan and I were coincidently reading the same book at Tahoe. It was fun racing each other to finish and I fondly remember our impromptu book club on the chair lift.

Dan was an exemplar of simplicity, generosity, fun, humility, genuinely caring for others, cherishing his gift of fatherhood (over the span of many years-accidentaly leaving one kid in the lodge after a hard day of skiing is nothing to hang your head about--christy ;), and being a devoted and adoring spouse...if there is anything I know about Dan it is that he loved Cindymom!

He understood that the only important things in this life are truth and our relationships with others...this sounds cliche, but I observed this theme of focus throughout his life and his example has shaped my perspective. He was lucky enough to have a spouse that shared his same focus, and obviously instilled these principles in his children as is evidenced by how they loved and cared for Dan while he was healthy, but even greater they increased their love, care, and sacrifice for him when he was sick and it was difficult.

I love this man and and I love this family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I will raise my Twinkie high this day as a tribute to this great man, and I hope Bruce will perform their once tandem Twinkie consumption magic trick. Lots of love!

This wonderful man will always be "Danny" to me. He will be tucked safely away in my favorite memories from childhood. I am sorry to have lost contact with the Taylor family over the years, (sometimes life gives us a good spin and hurls us about)... but my fond memories of Danny will always be with me. I can still see his handsome face and feel the influence of his gentle elegant style. He's a treasure in my thoughts. He will never leave me.
With love and all of my respect, Cousin Christine Bowen

Dear Taylor Family--- How I love your family and all the fun and wonderful times we have shared through the years. I am so sad about Dan's passing and have thought about you all often this week and prayed that you would be comforted at this time. Dan truly was the best of the best and I feel so grateful for what he meant to our entire family. Wish I could be there to hug you all and reconnect. Sending love your way!

He had pictures on his ceiling at his office What a delight that was to us when our daughter went for her visits. We all love him for so many reasons. We never saw him without his beautiful smile, his joy whenever he saw us. He had the capacity to make all he came in contact with feel special, like he was waiting to see you and get caught up on all your news. He is a great man and the world is poorer without him in it. Our family loves you and there is saddness as well as joy in our hearts as we think of not being able to shake your hand again and bask in the warmth of your smile until some coming day when we all gather beyond the vail to reminisce about our exprtiences in mortality. May the Lord bless all of you as you celebrate his life. You folks are a great example of what love of family and friends is all about.

What a man! What a family! The positive impact of Dan and his family started when our children were growing up together and they continue to reach out in love now as adults, just as he did. His gentle ways and captivating greeting with a characteristic twinkle in his eye and friendly chuckle will be forever treasured by us and all who knew him. Our love and deepist sympathies are extended to Cindy, their children, and the whole family.

Dr. Taylor was my orthodontist from when I was just eight years old until my junior year of high school. His office always reminded me of home, warm and comforting. His kind spirit will carry on and always be remembered. Thank you for giving me a beautiful smile. Rest in peace.

I couldn't have asked for a better father-in-law for my son. Dan was a man of integrity, one who kept his covenants. He accepted my son into his family and treated him like he was his own. The world lost one of the truly noble ones in Dan's passing, but thankfully the separation that is now so bitter is but a fleeting moment.

"Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting; The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting And cometh from afar; Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come From God, who is our home."

Dan Taylor had such a positive impact on my life. Knowing him gave me the opportunity to always be learning. I have always felt so very fortunate to have had the privilege of working for him. Much more than that though, he was the kindest man I have ever met. My heart is with all his family and all of us who's lives he touched. You are missed.

We joined the circle of friends to the Taylor family in 1980 and our lives have been enriched by their good examples. Dan led others by living his faith and serving as husband, father, coach, mentor, Bishop and friend. He was a man without guile toward anyone. Instead he reached out to counsel and assist all of us. And we loved him for it.

Dr. Taylor was a great dentist and made my child Jake have a beautiful smile that will make a huge difference all his life. He was a gentle man and our family felt so lucky to have been able to take advantage of his practice in Snohomish. His kindness and patience was admired. We are so sorry for your loss. God bless all your family and our prayers are with you all.
