Viola (Lola) Cash Palazzolo, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 17, 2014. Lola was born in New Orleans to the late Anthony J. Cash, Sr. and Alice Field Cash. Lola had been a resident of Metairie since 1956. She was an active Parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen. Her first duty was serving on the Altar Society.She later was very involved in the Parents Club, even serving as President. In 1958, Lola was a volunteer involved with St. Mary Magdalen's Pledge Drive.This was the beginning of over 25 years of service as the secretary to St. Mary Magdalen Rectory. Lola was a recipient of The Order of St. Louis Medallion presented by Archbishop Philip M. Hannan on June 27,1982. On April 27, 1943, Lola married the love of her life Raymond J. Palazzolo, Sr.They were happily married for 36 years until his passing in May 1979. Lola was preceded in death by her brothers James and Anthony Cash.To cherish her memory and to celebrate her life she leaves behind four children, Sandra (Billy) Long, Dianne Barth, Raymond (Doris) Palazzolo, and Deborah (Merlin) Schenck. Lola is survived by 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.In her later years, Lola loved traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with her cousin (Gusta). She also enjoyed visiting casinos from New Orleans, to the Gulf Coast and to Las Vegas. Her favorite timewas spending Mardi Gras on the balcony in the French Quarter. Her hobbies included playing bingo and walking with her cousin (Felicie). Special thanks to Lola's private caregivers Gina, Claire, and Opal. A special thank you extended to Egan Hospice especially Ashley and Joanne. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 7pm-9pm at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home located at 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA.The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11am, where friends may call after 9:00 am. Internment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the Alzheimer's Association, 3445 N. Causeway Blvd., Suite 1200, Metairie, LA. 70002 or Masses.

I am sorry for your sadness. I remember the first summer in CYO, your mom gave us a fun 'job' in the rectory stuffing envelopes. And there were always good things to eat at your house, which she would sometimes bring to the drugstore when we were working there. My condolences to you and your family.
