JC Buckner was born May 29, 1925 in Courtland, AL to the late Ira Russell Buckner and Frances Goode Buckner, and was one of ten children. He passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home with his youngest grandson at his side. J.C. was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Izard, taking part in 23 naval operations in the Pacific theater. He again was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. As a long-time resident of New Orleans, he held positions with H. G. Hill Stores, American Standard, and later the Orleans Parish School Board. He was a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in New Orleans, and St Genevieve Catholic Church after relocating to Slidell in 2005. With a limitless capacity for giving of himself, he leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Doris Cottingham Buckner; brothers, James, Charles, Floyd, Leonard, John, and Ira; and a sister, Ann. Survivors include his sons, Randy Buckner, and John Buckner and wife JoAnn; 3 grandchildren, Bryan Buckner and wife Heather, David Buckner and wife Judith, and Daniel Buckner and wife Jeannine; 7 great grandchildren, Jonathan, Emily, Brianna, Jacob, Brady, Brandon, and Brennan; two sisters, Bettye Thompson, and Laura Alexander, a sister-in-law, Irma Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for J. C. Buckner, age 88, at 12:00 pm Friday, May 2, 2014 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church 58203 HWY 433 Slidell, LA 70460. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Church from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Mr. Buckner will then be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell, LA.
