Ruth Arlene May (Uttecht) Giese, 89 of West Salem, Illinois passed from this life on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at her daughter's home in Crossville, Illinois.

She was born May 26, 1924 in pierce, South Dakota to Henry and Stella (Vynildall) Uttecht. She was a graduate of Excelsior High School, Norwalk, California. She met, fell in love and married the love of her life, Bob Giese, in 1942 who was serving in the army. He brought her back to Illinois to begin her new life as a farm wife. She was very active her whole life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and dedicated her life to Christ and to helping family, friends and neighbors, especially the young people in West Salem. She taught Sunday school class for 50 years and influenced many children's lives. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women's group, Food Programs and other programs involving the church. She was a seamstress and made and altered clothes for many people in the area and worked at Stop & Shop Grocery Store for many years. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren, working in her flower beds, playing dominoes, baking and reading.
She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Giese in 2001, her parents, brothers; Leon and Ralph Uttecht, sisters; Lorraine Mello and Jean Orel, brothers-in-law; Kenny (Lucille) Giese and Ivan McKinney.

She is survived by her children; Bob Giese of Canyon Lake, California, Fran (Paul) Bunting of Crossville, Illinois, Grandchildren: Trina (Tom) Riddle of Sumter, South Carolina, Dustin (Beth) Bunting of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Tyler and Casey Giese of Huntington Beach, California, great-grandchildren Leah and Luke Bunting of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, sister-in-law; Helen McKinney of Brookville, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ruth Giese will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:00am at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, IL. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, May 5, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to VNA Tip Hospice.

Always enjoyed being around Ruth. A group of us would play dominos with her at the West Salem Senior Center twice a week. She was so much fun and always brought the dominos. She was hard to beat. All of us will certainly miss her at the Center with her pleasant personality and smile.
