I went to O.L.D.P. from kindergarten in 1975 through 8th grade in 1984. Father Ropollo is the 1st priest I remember having. His sermons sometimes felt like he was talking to me. I loved Fr. Roppolo. He was such a warm and inviting soul. His name is probably spoken at least once or twice a year around our home. He definitely left a mark on this world, on so many worlds.

After reading all of the beautiful messages posted on this guest book, I have come to learn so much more of Msgr. Roppolo!...his priestly days were richer than I ever knew...I am even more grateful for having been in part of his life after hearing from so many of the other lives he touched during his ministry on earth. GOD you have welcomed home one of the best!

Monsignor Roppolo served our parish, St. Philip the Apostle in Desire,as Pastor when I was a young girl. I was fortunate to see him in November of last year when my mother was in rehabilitation at Chateau de Notre Dame. They resided on the same floor. My brother and I went to visit him and were surprised that he remembered serving at St. Philip and he remembered us as parishioners from the parish. He was always a loving and kind person and loved our parish. When he moved to Divine Providence parish, he had us to be sister parishes and we celebrated many Thanksgiving Masses together. May his soul rest in peace!

Monsignor Roppolo was the spiritual director for the trip I took to Medjugorje with my parents in September 1987. (His cousin and her granddaughter, Liz, were also on the trip.) He took a picture of my parents there, and this picture is one of my favorite pictures of them. I met him again when he was at St Henry's. He was a very kind, down-to-earth, generous person. May God Bless him forever.

I attended St Therese Little Flower when Monsignor Roppolo did most of our masses. It was a joy to have him after retiring. Monsignor Roppolo informed me; he was more active after retiring. When he resided at St Henry, Monsignor Roppolo invited us to sing for his anniversary. To the Roppolo family, I am sorry for you lost.

May 4, 2014

To the Roppolo Family, Fr. Roppolo was a true and good man who not only talked the talk but he walked the walk. He is part of what made me who I am today, He accepted me for who I was, and never had one cross word to anyone. He was best friends to my mom and dad, ( Milton and Jimmie Ann Dugas) Mom worked for him for 14 years even when he retired she kept his books and worked at St. Rita(NOLA). I remember him being at the house the night before dad went home, he sat in the recliner next to daddy's bed so mom and I could get some sleep, and woke us up before he left to say mass.
I will Miss him very much he was a very important part of my life from elementary at OLDP to St. Charlesto now..
And I have No doubt that mom and dad were there to help him across and are probably telling jokes and laughing, and I will miss him dearly he and his family are always in my heart and thoughts, God Speed Fr. Roppolo You did your job and although we will miss you It was time for you to go Home, Knowing a job well done. Your a true and Faithful servant and have earned a rest. I Love you and am proud to call you a member of the family and a Friend
Love to you and your Family,
Lee Ann Dugas

Msgr. Roppolo was a pioneer in pastoral leadership post Vatican II and a model for other pastors. His loss is a deep one for the Church of New Orleans.

MONSIGNOR ROPPOLO WAS PASTOR OF MY PARISH OLPD. BOTH MY CHILDREN WERE BAPTISEDAND ATTENDED OLDP SCHOOL FROM K-8TH GRADE. WE ALL HAVE VERY FOND MEMORIES OF HIM. I'LL NEVER FORGET HIM SAYING YOU NEED 3 THINGS TO RAISE A GOOD CHILD IN A CHRISTIAN SETTING. CHURCH, HOME & SCHOOL. HE WAS RIGHT. MAY HE REST IN HEAVEN WITH OUR HEAVENLY FATHER.

We met Father Roppolo over 30 years ago while working with a separated and divorced group. He help my husband with his annulment and performed our wedding ceremony at OLDP. He was a wonderful person. He counseled my father-in-law in the hospital and eased his mind. He later had a peaceful death. He was remarkable and will be sorely missed.

Though long expected, his death causes so much grief for all who were privileged to know him. His special concern for sex abuse victims was but one example of an exemplary life - as a priest and as a brother to all.

Father Roppolo is the first priest I can remember. He was my priest at O.L.D.P. from at least 1976 to 1984. I remember his homily from one Sunday when I was 12. When I left Church that day I told my Mom I wanted to go serve on a mission. He had the gift of being able to really get into your heart and make you want to be a better person. He will be missed. Heaven has a grand angel now.

May 3, 2014

Fr. Roppolo was the Pastor of Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in Metairie, and married me. He was a wonderful priest and man with a gentle heart and a loving soul. He will be sadly missed.
He will be in good company in Heaven with one of his successors, Fr. Milton Reich.
I have nothing but fond memories of Monsignor Roppolo.

It is difficult to imagine life without Father Roppolo. From childhood at St. Frances Cabrini School, through teen years, to our wedding that he attended, and into retirement years, he has been a part of our family -- always there for us bringing the spirit of Christ, the wisdom of his counsel, his culinary exploits, and especially those delicious Italian cookies prepared by his sister. Father willfully gave his all to everyone he came in contact with. We loved him dearly and will be calling on him often in the future.

Monsignor Roppolo was a dear friend to me and my family for many years. He was especially kind and sympathetic to my parents, Ellen and Johnny Veca during the last year of their lives when they were confined to a Nursing Home in Mandeville. I moved to Texas after my parents died and was able to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of his ordination in a small town in Texas about an hour from my home. He was always interested in helping the poor and less fortunate children of God. I will forever remember his gentle and loving ways.

A devoted priest. He married us in 1967. He will be missed.

May 2, 2014

Back in the 1960's, we knew him as Father Roppolo in Cabrini parish (now the site of Holy Cross). He was a young priest and our young mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In the midst of the tears he faithfully prayed with us and continue to write and visit our mother in the hospital for the next year. She eventually was transferred to a hospital in Chicago for experimental treatment and this wonderful young priest continued to support and offer daily mass and countless prayers and rosaries for her recovery. And she did just that. She lived to be 92 and I know she was one of the first faces to greet him in heaven. We all miss Monsignor Roppolo and have prayed for his life all these years.
