Jerome B. DeLaughter, 91, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014. Visitation will be at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson Wednesday, May 28, from 3:00 to 7:00pm, and Thursday, May 29, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday in the Chapel at Wright and Ferguson. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Jerome graduated from Salem High School (Class of 1942) in Salem, MS. He then joined the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1943-1945 with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre. He fought in Battles including Saipan, Tinian, Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima during the course of WWII. He remained active in the Marine Corps League, Detachment 173, as well as the 4th Marine Division and Iwo Jima Veterans Associations.
He joined the Jackson Fire Department in 1949 achieved the rank of Captain and retired in 1992 after 42+ years. He was stationed at #7 Fire Station in North Jackson. He was a member of the 3-Alarm Club and the Retired Fireman/Policemen Assoc. Jerome was also an avid collector including Civil War and Indian Relics, antiques and various other items of interest.
Survivors include three daughters: Lee Ann D. Foster, Linda D. Easterling, and Shauna D. Plafcan; and ten grandchildren: Heather and Amy Foster, Chris, Jerad, Susan, Bradford, and Emily Easterling, Snoei and Nicholas Plafcan and Jennifer Hartford as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
If preferred, donations can be made to Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, your local Burn Center or Fallen Firefighter Family's Assistance Fund.

Dear Lee Ann and Linda, My thoughts and prayers are sincerely with you right now. You were blessed by having your Dad for so long and he lived a full, busy life and I am thankful for his service to our country and city. Please give my love to your Mom.
