Hilda Howard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2014.

Mrs. Hilda Perkins Howard, age 97, passed away on July 17, 2014.
She spent most of her life as a resident of Griffin. For the last few years she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in the Lake Norman Area of Cornelius, NC. One of her favorite past times was to sit on the deck and watch the boating activities and wildlife along the shores of the lake. Mrs. Howard was a longtime member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Griffin where she attended many years. She worked as a transportation clerk during WWII in Atlanta but most of her adult life was spent in ministry for our Lord with her late husband as he pastored many churches in the Griffin and middle Georgia area including; Southside Baptist, Beulah Baptist and New Hope Baptist Churches. Mrs. Howard is preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Earl Howard of Griffin; parents, William Ira (Ike) and Betty Sue Perkins of Griffin; a sister, Edna Perkins Raven of Concord, GA and a brother, Mitchell Perkins of Palmetto GA.
Her memory will be cherished by her daughter and son-in-law, Dayna Howard McKinney and Gene McKinney of Cornelius, NC. She had been in their care for the last three years and will be greatly missed every day; as a wonderful Grandmother, her two grandchildren, Russell Cowan and Melissa Cowan Vasquez both of Cornelius, NC will certainly miss her smiling face and encouragement. Mrs. Howard was blessed with four Great Grandchildren, Rebecca and Rachel Cowan and C.J. and Aly Vasquez. They will miss their "Mimi" and playmate! She loved to sit on the deck or screened porch and watch them play.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Mt Gilead Baptist Church on Zebulon Rd. in Griffin. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm with the service following at 3:00pm. Burial will be in Griffin at Oak Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Rd. is in charge of arrangements.

I did not know Aunt Hilda very long, maybe 3 years but to know her was to love her! She always had the most beautiful smile and she loved to laugh. What a legacy she left for her family and friends. The world would truly be a better place if there were more people like her. There is no doubt where she is right now. Heaven is truly blessed to have her....she truly loved loved the Lord and she lived it. Aunt Hilda, I love you and will miss ya..
