Robert Allen Gibson, was born at home, in Cherokee, Oklahoma on February 6, 1940, to Glen and Aley Gibson. He joined a sister, Roberta Ellen. After the family moved to Wichita, Kansas a brother, Jimmie Glen, joined the family. The family later moved to Oregon, settling in Dundee and later in Newberg. Bob graduated from Newberg High School and attended Multnomah Trade School. Bob married Sally Pinkerton in 1960 in Newberg. They had two children, David and Rebecca.
Bob was a machinist by trade and later went to work for NW Natural Gas in Portland as a welder before transferring to Salem. Bob began a career in the Alaskan oilfields in 1975 where he eventually became manager of the Prudhoe Bay welding operations for VECO Construction and later served as General Manager of Udelhoven Oilfield Services before beginning his own welding and fabrication businesses in Salem and Dallas, Oregon. He and Sally moved from Dallas to Powell Butte in 2002 where he took up hay farming as his retirement endeavor, before moving to Prineville in 2006.
Bob was active in drag racing for numerous years. He was a master craftsman and his cars and other projects were often works of art, winning awards at many car shows including the coveted "Competition Sweepstakes" at the 1968 Portland Roadster Show. From 2007 through January 2014 Bob built a custom 1941 Packard Roadster and realized a lifelong dream of exhibiting it at the 2014 Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California where he won several awards including "Overall Outstanding Custom Rod."
For many years Bob lovingly cared for several Belgian draft horses in addition to the family's trail horses. Bob and Sally hosted several Thanksgiving celebrations for friends and family at their Dallas farm which ended with Bob taking the group into the local hills on the horse drawn wagon he built to gather Christmas Trees. Bob enjoyed numerous trail riding, camping, and other trips with his family and friends, often taking his grandchildren on special outings, and enjoyed watching their activities.
Bob was a member of the Powell Butte Christian Church where he served as a deacon and active volunteer. He also attended Shiloh Ranch Cowboy Church.
Bob is survived by his wife Sally Gibson; son David Gibson and his wife Nancy of Bend; daughter Becky Thomas and her husband Jed of Monmouth, Oregon; sister Roberta Miller of Portland; and four grandchildren: Melanie and Katherine Gibson and J.D. and Elizabeth Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

Bob was my class friend. I remember we had one snowy day and he took some of his friends up to Bald Peak. It was in the evening. We slide in a ditch and we could not get his car out. I think he accidentally locked his car keys in the car. So off we went walking home. We did get a ride. I enjoyed his friendship. My Prayers are with the Family. Judy Barrow Tucker

Sally and Family, I only knew Bob for a short time, but he was a great caring man. I am so glad he got to show his car in Pomona. I know it meant a great deal to him. May the peace of God, that passeth all understanding, be a comfort to you in this time.

So many great memories have been made with Bob and Sally. We served together organizing and preparing funeral dinners for several years at Powell Butte Christian Church. Bob has a honey bear in the cupboard so he can test run the dinner rolls as they come hot out of the oven. The most fun and memorial experience was camping together and sharing a Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake from the "Dairy Queen in Silver Lake". Bob will be greatly missed. Dale and Marlene Pedersen
