Ruben Virgilio Gonzalez Ballesteros passed away on September 3rd, 2014 at the age of 76. He was a lifelong resident of Xalisco Nayarit, Mexico and Oakland, CA. He is survived by his 3 children Ruben Gonzalez Jr., Paulina Gonzalez, Alexis Gonzalez, and 3 grandchildren.
Ruben was born on July 22, 1938 to Francisco Gonzalez Sanchez and Rosario Ballesteros Becerra. He was a "Bracero" in the late 50's and early 60's, working the land throughout California. In the 60's he established himself in Oakland, CA working in foundries and factories throughout the city. He later became a longshoreman and worked as a painter in the navy shipyards and dry docks throughout the bay area.
Ruben's passion was coffee. He grew coffee in the coastal sierra of Nayarit in the remote rancho of El Malinal. His legacy of hard work continues as his family actively work to bring his coffee to the bay area and the world.
