Ruth Eleanora Tull Rodgers died October 7, 2014 at a local nursing home. She was born September 18, 1925 in Mexia, Texas to Dr. Raymond H. Tull, Sr. and Ruth Wallace Tull. Ruth's family moved to Abilene, Texas in the mid-1920's where she graduated from high school. While attending Tarleton College she met and married the love of her life, Weldon R. Rodgers. A daughter Tonya was born to them and became the delight of their lives. Tonya, who was strikingly beautiful, had a operatic quality voice, sang in many productions and earned a BA and an MA degree all the while dealing with intermittent cancer much of her life.
Ruth was a good mother, wife and was a talented sketch artist. She was fortunate to have had a great husband. Ruth loved all animals.
Ruth's mother, father, husband and daughter and step-mother, Dorris , preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother Dr. R.H. Tull, Jr. and half-sister Marilyn Chalmers along with several nephews and nieces. She was fortunate to have had many great brothers and sisters-in-law. There will be no formal funeral services but a memorial meeting of relatives and friends will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hudman and Integra Care Hospice along with many who assisted with Ruth's care.
Donations, if desired, may be given to Rescue the Animals, 4620 North First Street, Abilene, Texas, 79603 or to similar groups or to the donor's favorite charity.
