Benjamin Roberts Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 16, 2014.

SSGT Benjamin T. Roberts entered God's embrace following a vehicle accident October 3, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ben was returning to his home outside Nellis Air Force Base when struck and killed by a truck trailer. Ben is the son of Karen Frymire Roberts and Todd E. Roberts. Preceding him in death are grandparents Mary Alice and Thomas R. Frymire and Clarissa and John Roberts. Ben leaves his parents; siblings Laura Roberts and John Roberts; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his Pararescue brothers of the 58th Rescue Squadron to remember his beautiful spirit.
Ben is a graduate of Highland Park HS and Baylor University, where he prepared to enter medical school. Working as an EMT in the interim following graduation, he met a retired PJ and found a calling serving the Lord and our nation as a USAF Pararescuer. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, Ben was training for his third deployment. As a leader in previous missions, Ben's knowledge and initiative were critical to the success of both US Central and Africa commands' personnel recovery contingencies. While deployed in support of the Combined Joint Task Force in the Horn of Africa, he was the lead medic during the first ever casualty evacuation in that theater where his expertise saved the life of a United States soldier. Additionally, deployed as team leader, he lead six men in the execution of more than 2,800 hours supporting Department of State embassy security and counter-terrorism missions. He also performed a dangerous underwater inspection of a Coast Guard cutter to ensure success in their homeland security mission. Ben was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal in recognition of his service.
Always ready with those remarkable blue eyes twinkling and an infectious laugh, Ben craved adventure and any opportunity to hang out with family and friends. He was in every sense a true friend, cherished son, and man of integrity. He lived life to the fullest, creating a legacy of poise, courage and honor.
His family expresses their gratitude toward the men of the 58th RSQ in their embrace of us in sharing stories and pictures of our unpretentious Ben. We are better for it.
Ben will lie in state Friday, October 17th from 9 AM until 9 PM at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home with family visitation from 6-8 PM. Please join the family as well at 2 PM Saturday, October 18th at Park Cities Baptist Church to share in a celebration of his life and the knowledge that his final mission as a guardian angel in heaven is his best.

Ben was a most special part of the Marshall Family. He was a friend to each member of our family. He was kind and an awesome guy with a most winsome spirit. He was an extraordinary ambassador of Christ to so many. We will miss him dearly but are so glad he was part of all of our lives. We are praying for you Karen and each member of your family. Only God can make good out of this most tragic event but thankfully that is His specialty. Ben's short life had such a profound impact on so many. He will always be part of our lives in the months and years ahead.
