Linda Ann Benedict Powers, 71, passed away at her residence on Nov. 16, 2014. She was born in Spartanburg, S.C., daughter of the late William and Mildred Woods Benedict. Mrs. Powers was a former employee of the Personnel Department of Parkdale Mills, formerly was a private Care Giver, was a former Manager of Village Square Apartments in Gastonia. Mrs. Powers is a member of South Marietta Baptist Church. Mrs. Powers is survived by her daughter, Wendy Helton and husband Kevin of Edmond, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Sarah Helton of Edmond, Oklahoma; Charles Thayer, companion. A celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia. The family will receive friends with a reception immediately after the celebration of life service. Burial will be private and at a later date. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her parents; son, William "Billy" Barry Long Jr.; sister, Marlene Benedict. Memorials may be made to Tri-County Animal Rescue, P. O.
