Lee Morris Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2015.

MORRIS, LEE TRAMMELL, age 58, of Birmingham, loving son, husband, father, brother, and friend passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015. Lee was born March 5, 1957 in Birmingham. He was a graduate of The Baylor School for Boys of Chattanooga, TN, class of 1975, where he lettered in track. He earned his B.S. from The University of Alabama, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was an active member and volunteer of Canterbury United Methodist Church and served on the Finance Committee. Lee was Vice President of Riverside Refractories where he worked for 35 years, a four-generation family-owned business. He was a member of the American Foundry Society, the Association of Iron and Steel Technology, and an executive member of The Refractories Institute. He was a member of The Country Club of Birmingham.

Lee Morris was preceded in death by his father, John Cartwright Morris, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sally Broussard Morris, and his children, Auguste Arthur (Scott) Bondy, IV, Michael O'Neal Morris, and Elizabeth Lee Morris; his mother, Brook Paylor Morris, and his brothers, John Cartwright Morris, Jr. (Libbie), William Coleman Morris, Sr. (Mariellan), and Edward Brooking Morris (Wendy), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who all adored him.

Lee, affectionately called "Pokey," had his own sense of humor and a joy for life that he shared with everyone he met. He will always be remembered for his "glass half full" attitude, selflessness and strong Christian faith. He was an avid train enthusiast, loved boats, and was happiest with his family watching the Blue Angels fly over the Gulf of Mexico.

The Morris family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Lee's cousin and Oncologist, Dr. Allen Yeilding, and his staff for their compassionate, loving care during his 16 years of steadfast bravery in the battle against multiple cancers.

A Memorial Service will be held at Canterbury United Methodist, Wednesday June 10. 2015 at 2:30 pm in the Sanctuary. The family will receive guests beginning from 1:00 to 2:15 pm in Canterbury Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or to Canterbury United Methodist Church Student Ministry Scholarships.
