James L. "Jim" Greene, 81, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C., after a short illness.
He was born March 3, 1934 to Van Buren and Inez Mitchell Greene at Greenview, Boone County, W.Va. Jim graduated from DuPont High School in 1953 and retired from DuPont Plant in Belle, W.Va. After serving in the U.S. Army, Jim served until his retirement from the WV Army National Guard.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosalie Greene Moore.
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Sandra Thornton and Kelly Greene; grandchildren, Doug Thornton and wife, Kelly, Abigail Thornton, Sydney Thornton, Ian O'Keefe and Emily O'Keefe; sisters, Patsy Marks and husband, Fred, and Emma Vandell and husband, Ron; brother, Gary Greene and wife, Melanie; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends to cherish his memory by remembering his humor and generosity.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home, Charleston, W.Va. A memorial service will be held the following day, Saturday, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Anyone choosing to do so may donate to the Rand Community Center or a favorite charity, in lieu of flowers.
