Richard A. Denney, 73 of Fort Wayne passed away at 4:58 pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Lutheran Hospital. Richard was a 1960 graduate of Lafayette Central High School. He was a member of the Sheriff's Reserve for the Wells County Sheriff's Department from 1982 – 1987. He had worked on several construction jobs as a heavy equipment operator for many years; most recently he worked at Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire in Fort Wayne, retiring in 2009.

He was born on May 3, 1942 in Fort Wayne, a son of Othel M. and Berneice B. (Smith) Denney.


He was united in marriage to Sue "Susie" Shepler on December 4, 1964 in Roanoke. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2009. He later married Joyce Young on March 4, 2010 in Fort Wayne. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter: Darla (Mark) Werling of Rochester, MI; four brothers: Merlin (Judy) Denney of Fort Wayne; Robert (Linda) Denney of Fort Wayne; Roland (Maryalice) Denney of Markle; Don (Bonnie) Denney of New Haven; three grandchildren: Grant, Nicholas and Kyla Werling and two stepsons: Michael Ladd and Todd Ladd both of Fort Wayne and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville with Pastor Darryl Denney officiating.

Memorial donations may be made out to Feed The Children in care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle, IN 46770.
