Vera Devillier Broussard, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a brief, hard-fought battle with cancer.
Vera lived the last 51 years in Welsh where she worked alongside her husband, Dr. A.C. Broussard, for 37 years. She was a devout member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church where she previously served as a eucharistic minister, a religion teacher, and a member of the RCIA team. She also assisted couples in the planning of their weddings. Vera was instrumental in setting up the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was named OLSD Female Parishioner of the Year in 2011.
Vera loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed tending to her plants, watching Fox News, and following sports. In addition to never meeting a stranger, Vera enjoyed going to the Coushatta Casino where many people knew her by name.
She is survived by her four daughters: Annette Troutman and her husband David; Zonnie Dietrich and her husband Ken; Emily Gay and her husband John; and Amy Stanford. Vera also leaves behind to cherish her memory thirteen grandchildren: Eric Troutman, Leann Troutman Guinn, Regan Troutman, Madison Troutman, Jon Dietrich, David Dietrich, Emily Dietrich Stevens, Joey Broussard, Sara Gay, Amy Gay, Elise Stanford, Drew Stanford, and Peyton Stanford, as well as eighteen great-grandchildren. Vera is also survived by two brothers, Larry Devillier and Boosie (Wendy) Devillier and one sister, Jackie (Johnny) Hargroder.
Vera was welcomed into heaven by her husband of 53 years, Dr. A.C. Broussard, her parents Ophelia and Cless Devillier, three brothers, and three sisters.
Carrying her to her place of rest will be her six grandsons: Joey Broussard, Eric Troutman, Jon Dietrich, David Dietrich, Drew Stanford, and Peyton Stanford.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh, Louisiana, on Friday, September 25, 2015, from 3 pm-9pm, with a rosary recited at 6:00 pm. My family are all so very sorry that we did not know about her illness or her passing until yesterday afternoon. Ms Vera and Dr B were lifelong friends of family and Dr B was our doctor too. To all the family, we send our deepest sympathy to you all. Ms V and Dr B, will remain in our memories for long to come. I remember him making house calls when I was a little girl before starting first grade. I was very ill and grandma Stroder called him one nite and he came over and fixed me up. Forever grateful for them both.

I have very fond memories, as a young child, when Aunt Vera and Uncle Curly would take my brother, Eric and I on trips out for the day to have fun in the Lafayette and Opelousas area. She was always so sweet to us and knew how to make these visits very special for us. We always looked forward to them with great expectations. Aunt Vera was sweet to me then and always. May she rest in peace.

Mrs Vera always made a fuss when she saw me and I can say I liked it. We are going to miss her sweet smile and her wit. She took great of my family and I so appreciated her. Thank you for your kindness Mrs Vera and the occasional hugs. Those hugs meant more than you will ever know. Rest in Peace and May God Bless her family.

We send our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers to my cousins and their families during this sad time. My aunt Vera was a woman with strong faith in God, and endless love for her family. To say she will be missed would be an understatement, but I know her love will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

"Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." Cousin Vera was a very Special Cousin that my Mom, (Rose Soileau Latiolais) spoke of often, sharing memories of their childhoods days and the fun they had. As young children we would laugh at some of the things Mom shared with us, we just did not know how valuable these same stories would become as we grew up and older, losing these same people that shared these stories. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers, God has blessed you with memories and treasures for a life time.

To the family of Mrs. Vera I am both shocked and saddened by her passing. I know how much she loved her Lord Jesus Christ. Now she is with Him in heaven and in peace and not in pain anymore. Back years ago she is the first person that talked to me about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will surely be missed by all those that knew her. Again my deepest sympathies are with all of her children and grandchildren that meant the world to her. I loved Mrs. Vera very much.
For Gods Kingdom,

My deepest sympathy to all of you. I am so sorry I did not get over to visit with Vera. Doc & Vera always had a special place in our heart. We enjoyed the times we got to spend with them and our years of friendship, especially when Vera and I went fishing or hit the antique auctions. Good memories. She will be missed in this community but remembered with love and great respect.

We go a long way back with Vera as a nurse for Dr. Broussard. Back before Robbie was born in 1969. Then, of course, more recent years as fans for many years for the Lacassine Cardinal track team in Baton Rouge. They were so much fun to be with. And, the last years when she attended the Cardinal basketball games, I had the privilege of being seated by her. She was one great fan. Glad she was on the same side as us. Lovely lady, girls.

Long ago in 1971, Aunt Vera helped me pick out my wedding stoneware and then said that she and Uncle Curley were giving us the whole set! Then on our wedding day, they gave us some money for our honeymoon!! Believe me when I say that two poor college graduates sincerely appreciated their love and gifts! I will miss our birthday calls in October.
