– Clyde Elsworth Garten, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at home.
Born on December 29, 1928 at Dewit, he was the son of the late Eldridge and Mary Garten and Maynard and Helen Violet.
Mr. Garten was a member of Garten Pentecostal Church. He was a retired brakeman from C&O Railroad. Mr. Garten enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sitting on his swing listening to music.
Preceding him in death include his parents, Eldridge and Mary Garten and Maynard and Helen Violet; his wife, Loredia Garnet Compton; three children: Arnold, Sherry, and David; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and three brothers, Bill, Howard, and Harl.
Left to cherish his many wonderful memories are his children: James and Mary Garten, Alonda and Leroy Adams, Randy and Diane Garten, Wanda and Doc Adams, and Tim and April Garten; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 Daystar Worship Center, Kilsyth, with Pastor Larry Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow at the Bibb Cemetery, Gatewood.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Monday, October 5, 2015 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
Memorials donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Southern WV, PO Box 1492, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.
