Mrs. Beatrice Martin Swaney, 91, passed away December 30, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Guilford Memorial Park with Reverend Tommy Jones officiating.

Mrs. Swaney was born in Bullock County, GA to the late James J. and Carrie Barrs Martin. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Paul E. Martin. Beatrice will be remembered as a thoughtful woman with a sweet nature. She lived at Whitestone (Masonic and Eastern Star Home) for over 15 years and enjoyed providing her neighbors with items she had sewn herself as she was an accomplished seamstress. Beatrice was a dance enthusiast and won several local competitions. Her best times were spent with her family and she made a point to stay involved in their lives whether by hand written notes, phone calls or personal visits. She was a member of Eastern Star, Guilford Chapter #141 and Myrtle Rebekah #51. Beatrice was of the Methodist faith and a member of Muirs Chapel UMC.

Beatrice will be lovingly remembered by her friend and sister-in-law, Dorothy S. Green of Greensboro and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and brother her husband, James Creighton Swaney preceded her in death in 1983.

Bea was a wonderful person to know. She had a smile that could light up a room and I never saw her in a cross mood. She will be missed.
