Jean Marise Nordmeyer, age 88, of Bella Vista went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2016. She was a resident at Concordia Health & Rehab in Bella Vista.
Jean was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on December 14, 1927 to Clarence and Alice Wingate. She graduated from Ottumwa High School where she was active in the Shark Swim Club. After high school she loved to teach swimming and received an honor from the American Red Cross for 40 years as a WSI Water Safety Instructor.
Jean received an Associate Title in Secretarial Practices at the University of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. She was active in the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority for many years. After college she did some modeling for Brandeis Department Store in Omaha. She moved back to Ottumwa where she served two terms as Clerk of Municipal Court. She was also active in the Ottumwa Community Players. Later she returned to Omaha where she became a member of the Daughters of the Nile. She later moved and retired to Bella Vista. She taught adult swim lessons for the Bella Vista Recreation community, and was a member of the United Methodist Church, The Nebraska Club, and The Bella Vista Needlework Club.
Jean is survived by her sister Joan Humphrey (Dick); her children, Janice Bickel (Marv) and Jason Wallin (Donna); her step-daughters, Lynne Gelles (Tom), Julie Debner (Joel) and Kathy McGee (Mike); grandchildren, Melody Labitov (Dmitriy) and Aaron Wallin; step-grandchildren, Alex, Rae, and Abbie Debner, Kay and Kelly McGee, and Tori and Kobi Gelles and several nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Alice Wingate and her spouses, Jack Augustine, Carl Wallin, and Bill Nordmeyer. A celebration of her life is planned for noon, Saturday, June 25th, 2016 at West Lawn Cemetery – Hillcrest Memorial Park 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska.
