Edgar M. Werling, 93, of Ossian passed away Tuesday March 15, 2016 in the same home he was born in with his family by his side. He was born to the late Robert and Milda (Witte) Werling of Ossian. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ossian where he held many positions including head of the graveyard committee for many years. He was a lifetime farmer and carpenter. He enjoyed keeping busy. He owned the first 'wire-tie' baler in the area and worked late hours many days helping area farmers getting their baling done. If it was broke, he could fix it. He would always be prepared for the unexpected. He was a devoted husband, to his wife Doris, married August 24, 1946 for nearly 70 years. He is survived by his wife Doris (Dettmer) of Ossian, daughters, Diane Fiedler and Linda (Tim) Broyles both of Fort Wayne, Leon (Arlene) Werling and Darryl (Jeni) Werling both of Ossian; son-in-law, Robert Kiefer of Auburn; he was also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Sharon Kiefer, son in law, Donald Fiedler, and siblings, Norma (Fred) Nahrwold of Ossian and Edna (Junior) Silvers. Funeral service will be 10:30 am on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6514 E 750 North, Ossian with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Worship for Shut-Ins.

Darryl Werling
Dad, you are an amazing example of a devoted husband, loving father and faithful servant of our Lord. A motto I would use to describe you would be: Think ahead to be prepared'. From carpentry to farming, he would always have a toolbox or the back of the truck loaded with all sorts of items. I often wondered why we had so much stuff, but by the end of the day, we used many of the items as that issue arose. What a full life of changes he had between being born and leaving this world in the same house. From 1 horse power to crank start to putt-putt to the larger tractors. From 2 furrow plow to field cultivator. From a 6' wide combine to 20' heads. From hand-shucking corn to 1 to 2 row picker to shelling. From flat bed to hopper wagon to grain trucks. From a.m. 1190 WOWO to a.m. 1190 WOWO (some things didn't change). You could go on forever on changes, but the things that didn't change were his love for his family and his devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We know by faith that he is in Heaven, with a healed body, singing with Sharon and all the other saints that have be raised in Christ. We love you and will miss you dearly. I'm so thankful you were my earthly father and proud to be you son. Darryl

Dr David and Elaine Nahrwold
I will miss my Baptism sponsor and only remaining uncle. Elaine and I ESPECIALLY regret not being able to celebrate Uncle Edgar's funeral at Bethlehem since we are in Texas visiting Elisabeth's family. I treasure my visit talking with him in ICU last week. IN HIM, Dr David Nahrwold
