Funeral services for Darla Jean McAvoy will be held on Friday, April 1st, 2016 at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Tahlequah, OK with Bishop Spencer Johnson and Brother Harold Spradlin officiating. A wake service will be conducted at Reed-Culver Chapel on Thursday, March 31st, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel. Interment will follow on Friday in Euwasha Cemetery in Kenwood, OK. Online condolences for her family may be left at www.reedculver.com.
Pallbearers for Darla include Devin Yazzie, Wesley Yazzie, Spencer Yazzie, Danny Hair, Michael Talley, Wallace Hair, Tom McAvoy, and Mark Osborne. Honorary pallbearer is Bill McAvoy.
Darla Jean McAvoy was born on May 2nd, 1966 in Phoenix, AZ, the daughter of Bill Kenneth and Jean Marie (Spike) McAvoy. She grew up in a household with two sisters and two brothers, and was very proud of her Native American heritage and ancestry. Upon completing her high school education, she attended Brigham Young University and University of Texas at Tyler, majoring in Political Sciences. She was a loving mother to three sons, one daughter, one stepson, and one stepdaughter. She loved raising her children and being a part of their lives on a daily basis. She was involved in their schooling, their sports, and all of their extracurricular activities. Darla enjoyed any chance she had to spend with her eight grandchildren, they were her pride and joy. When she had spare moments, she enjoyed being out of doors and working in her flower garden. She liked to cross stitch. Darla was a faithful and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, demonstrating her faith in her daily life. Darla's health began to fail her and she passed from this life on March 27th, 2016 in Tulsa, OK with her family and dear friends by her side. She was 49 years old. She will be greatly missed by all her family and those fortunate enough to call her friend.
She is preceded in death by her brother, William J. Adam and her grandparents.
Those left to cherish her memory include her parents of Henderson, TX, and her children, Devin Yazzie of Tyler, TX, Wesley Yazzie of Orem, UT, Spencer Yazzie of Orem, UT, and Gaetana Young of Mt. Pleasant, TX. She leaves two stepchildren, Wallace Hair of Oklahoma and Maria Mapps also of Oklahoma. She leaves one brother and two sisters, Tom McAvoy of Henderson, TX, Anita Osborne of Chapel Hill, TX, and Janna Welker of Las Vegas, NV, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and a host of friends and loved ones.
