Larry Orchard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2016.

Larry Joe Orchard, 62 of Idaho Falls, died Saturday March 26 at his home. He was born January 20, 1954 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Orchard of Idaho Falls.

Larry will be missed by many people he touched over the years. He will be remembered as a brother, friend, uncle and neighbor. His kind and caring personality was acknowledged by those closest to him. He always wanted the best for others and he was always striving to make himself better.
He grew up as the first born and blazed a trail for his sister and brother. He challenged his teachers and parents with difficult questions and actions. His willingness to try new things and explore new places in his youth helped him understand later in life the struggles that others have to overcome. One example of his adventurous spirit, which made for many fond memories was when he and his brother had to be rescued after swimming across a fast-flowing Salmon River. While growing up he enjoyed sports not only participating but also coaching.

Larry graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1972 where he enjoyed sports and friends. He attended Idaho State University followed by Eastern Idaho Vocational Technical School where he studied as an electrician's apprentice. His employment included many different positions. He worked for Mountain Bell in various functions. He worked construction in Texas, started his painting business, window washing business and other entrepreneurial activities.
His interests later in life included participating in group discussions and activities with Rehabilitation Health Services, watching baseball, following the activities of his niece and nephew, and traveling. Music was also important in Larry's life. He wrote lyrics and composed music expressing his emotions and thoughts of making the world a better place. He followed his favorite sports teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago White Sox, and whatever baseball team his nephew played for over the last 10 years.

Larry had a huge heart and was kind to everyone around him. He loved his family deeply, especially his niece and nephew who he spoiled every birthday and holiday. We will miss the trips with Larry to watch baseball and ice skating, the family Christmas times together in Utah, and celebrations with his favorite ice cream. Larry especially enjoyed many summer and fall days at the family cabin in Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming. Golfing, playing pinochle, visiting on the deck, enjoying the mountain views and an occasional flag football or pick-up basketball game were his favorite things to do in Star Valley.

We want to thank the team at Rehabilitative Health Services, especially Bruce Lines, LSW, CPRP. For over 30 years, Bruce was a wonderful counselor and mentor to Larry and a true family friend. Larry valued Bruce's conversation and advice, and always talked about their weekly outings whether it was going to group sessions or shopping to buy Christmas presents.

Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his sister, Dylynn Carlson of Idaho Falls, brother, Tony Orchard (Karen) of Sandy, UT, niece Erin Orchard of Anchorage, AK, and nephew TJ Orchard of Sandy, UT.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 9, 2016 at Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Friends may call from 10-10:45 a.m. before the service to greet the family.

Larry was my brother's best friend for over 45 years. He hung around my parents home from when I was about 14. He was like one of the family. When I got married at 20. he got a beautiful crystal bud vase as a gift. It was lovely. He was always so kind. Larry, you will be missed.
