Martha Ellen Carman (Knauft) age 86, died May 20, 2016 in Spokane, WA. Martha was a longtime resident of Davenport, WA where she and her husband, Thaine owned and operated Carman's Bakery for 27 years. Martha was born in Spokane, WA on October 3, 1929 to Frederick and Johanna Knauft. She was the youngest of ten children and graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1947. Martha is survived by her three children Debbie Orvis, Christie (Tom) Duncan and Ken (Dawn) Carman along with six grandchildren, David (Sarah) and Eric (Bethany) Orvis, Max (Jen) Stormo, Steven, Jacob and Susan Carman and six great-grandchildren, her brother, Henry (Hank) Knauft and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Thaine Carman, her son Thaine David Jr., and her siblings William, Arthur, Emil, Rudy, Alfred Knauft and Helen Rietz, Elizabeth Smith and Doretta Moreno. Martha enjoyed pinochle, piano, crossword puzzles, crafts, sewing and making dolls. In her later years, Martha wrote poetry about her life and we are blessed with the treasure of her history. Any stray animal that entered her life became a welcome member of her home and our family. Most of all Martha loved her sisters and brothers and her children. Family was everything. Graveside services, Wednesday May 25, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mr. View Cemetery, Davenport, WA. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Society.
