1949
2016
Ronald Travis was born December 5, 1949, and was called home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2016. Ronald was the son of the late Barbara Holly and Herbert Travis. Leaving behind to cherish his memory is the love of his life Rosetta Jordan; two sons, Ronald Jordan (Kim) of Winchester and Waverly Jordan (Lucinda) of Front Royal; two brothers, Robert Travis (Wannetta) of Harrisburg, PA, and preceding him in death, Warren Travis (Cynthia) of Annapolis, MD. Three sisters, Deborah Jones of Baltimore, MD, Lockett Franklin of Richmond and Lynn Simms of Cumberland, MD. Three grandchildren, Stephan Jordan and Antoine Jordan of Washington, DC, and Abigail Jordan of Franklin, IL; and one great-granddaughter Aubrei Jordan also of Franklin, IL, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Ronald Travis was well known by his nick name "Shag". He was born and lived in Front Royal all his life. He worked at Costco for over 25 years. He was a very dedicated employee and earned the name of "Mr. Costco", the unofficial face of Costco. Shag was a friendly person and loved greeting people and putting smiley faces on the receipts. He loved his job, co-workers and interacting with customers. He never missed a day from work and wouldn't think of ever being late.
The horses and playing the lottery was his enjoyment, even though he was a family man. He loved his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He would get excited when preparing for them to visit. He especially enjoyed spending time with his brother Bobby.
Shag was a well rounded person. It didn't matter if he knew you or not, he was always there to lend a helping hand. he would mow his grass, the neighbor's grass, and cut his friend's grass. Let's not forget how he loved Liz's potato salad, chitterlings and more potato salad. You never saw him angry, for he kept a smile and a chuckle. No matter what you were going through, Shag would say, "it will work out". He loved his Aunt Mildred so much. When she dyed her hair, he would dye his hair too. He also loved his cousin Lisa. He was not only her cousin, but big brother. Shag lived his life to the fullest, always wanting to take care of someone before himself.
Shag, we love you and there aren't enough words to express how much we will miss you, but we take comfort in knowing that we will see you again. Many people come into our lives, but there will never be another Shag.

We are so saddened by Shag's passing. It was a joy to see his smiling face and hear his kind words that were so sincere. It's not the same at Costco where we have so many friends. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.

To the family of Shag as we knew him at Costco - he was loved there as an employee and he was loved by the people that passed by him out the door - he never failed to speak to you in the store and he always had that smile - yes we all will miss him at Costco and you all will miss him - it was a pleasure for us to know him through his work and watch him while he worked as he enjoyed every minute of it there - you all have been in our prayers from the time we heard the sad news - you all have to know you were loved and will be loved by so many that he left behind - so until we meet again we will keep you in our hearts as a friend

I'd rather see a sermon
than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me
than merely tell the way.
The eye's a better pupil
and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing,
but example's always clear;
And the best of all preachers
are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action
is what everybody needs.

I had submitted a message the day after hearing about Shag's death. I did see it then but looking at the Obituaries today it wasn't there which prompted me to call Jones Funeral Home. They couldn't find it either.
I had written how sad it was hearing about Shag's tragic death. My husband and I were customers since the store opened so we were greeted many times by Shag. A couple of weeks ago he was standing near one of the tables with a man I thought could be his brother and it was his son. Shag was a great, personable person and will be missed by all who knew him. He never changed in all the years we knew him. Our condolences to his family.

There are no words to truly express the sadness and loss we feel at the passing of Shag and our hearts are heavy. Foremost he loved his wife, children and grandchildren, but he held equally dear his outer circle of family, especially his Aunt Mildred. He was always giving, whether it was a smile, or a joke, or just a welcoming look you knew that you were in the presence of someone special. He met the challenges of life without ever becoming bitter, always taking the higher road. Surely, without him there will be a vacuum that cannot be filled, but his life is a role model of being the best you can be. If everyone "could be like Shag" the world would be a better place.
Maurice, Sandra, Kwasi, Nneka and the kids.
Rest in Peace Shag. You will be with us forever.

I am so saddened by losing you Shag. Your beautiful wife, sons, and other family members and loved ones are in my heart and prayers. I hope you know Shag just how many lives you touched with your beautiful spirit. You were so kind to everyone. Your wisdom and loving actions were an inspiration to all. I considered you my friend. Whenever I saw you, you ALWAYS took the time to give a hug and ask how I was doing - and it was real! You HONESTLY cared, were interested and meant what you said. You truly were an angel on earth and now are an angel in Heaven. You will be missed so much! The only thing that may bring comfort to all those you touched is that you will be shining that remarkable light that is you down on all of us and, one day, we will all be blessed to see you again in His Glorious Kingdom. I know when that day comes, I will be looking forward to hearing "Annie dear...HOW ARE YOU?" and will be ready for that hug and kind words of inspiration. Rest with the Angels my friend.

This was my post on Facebook:
"I am so very, very sad to hear that the kind face we so often saw at Costco will no longer greet us or mark our receipts or give stickers to our children. God speed Shag - I didn't even know your last name but I will remember your friendly face, your warm smile, and your calm demeanor but perhaps most of all when you broke into my car because I had once again locked the key in it." He will be sorely missed by so many people - that post generated many comments, and I know other Facebook people posted and had the same results.
