John Benjamin Oakley, 79, of Martinsville passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, July 11, 2016. He was born in Martinsville on August 6, 1936 to George Dillard Oakley, Sr. and Julia Lester Oakley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sally Oakley Burch and Julie Oakley Gravely; and granddaughter, Brynn Oliver-Watkins.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline Riddle Oakley; daughter, Julia Oakley Vernon; brothers, George D. Oakley, Jr. and Robert Oakley; grandson, Bradley Vernon; grandson-in-law, Michael Watkins; great-granddaughter, Nataly Oliver.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Christ's Church with Pastor Buck Wardle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ's Church, 1425 Spruce Street Extension, Martinsville, Va. or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 551, Martinsville, VA. 24114.
