Maria L. Luis, age 91, passed away, peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River. She was the wife of the late Abilio Luis.
Born in Consolação, Portugal, a daughter of the late Joao and Felicidade (Silva) Ramos, she came to the United States in 1978 and lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth before moving to Fall River 13 years ago.
Mrs. Luis had worked in local textile mills for several years.
Maria was a gentle, kind, faithful, and humble woman who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great story teller who had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all who loved her.
Her family includes a son, Abilio R. Duarte and his wife Maria of Dartmouth; a daughter, Maria Jose Luis of Portugal; three grandchildren, Marco Silva of Portugal, Ruth and Jonathan Duarte of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and sister.
Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 8am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.

My deepest condolences go out to Bill his wife and his family. It was my great pleasure to take care of Maria, she was loved by many. Bill you was an amazing son! I never met a someone so close as you were, you was always there for her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May she rest in peace with God.
