Services for Margie Jane Ross Smith will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Center Ridge Baptist Church with visitation from 2:00-3:00pm at the church. Burial will follow in the Center Ridge Church Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Rev. James A. Ruffin, Rev. Harvey Troutman and Rev. Mike Sims will officiate.
Margie went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2016 at 6:35 pm after having a massive stroke on June 25, 2016. She was at Rush hospital surrounded by her family. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister and doting aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt. She was faithful to her church and also to the Union Methodist Church. She was a member of the Retired Public Employees Association, Joy Club, Kemper County Senior Citizens, Forestry Association, Kemper County Historical Association and on the board of the Center Ridge Cemetery Association.
Margie graduated from DeKalb High School at the age of sixteen and went on to attend Business School in Meridian. Margie retired from the Kemper County Health Department as Office Manager after forty one years of service.
Margie enjoyed being with family and friends and supporting her niece, nephews and great nephews in their sporting events and attending their games when possible. She enjoyed attending the Meridian Little Theatre for many years.
She is survived by three sisters; Peggy Walker (Jerry), Frances Brown (Billy), Hazel Johnson (Bibble); niece Penny Pearson (Chuck); two nephews Bill Brown (Melinda) and Bud Brown (Karen); great nephews Ross Brown (Lauren), Clint Brown, Hunter Brown, Reid Brown and Cody Pearson, a great great niece Ann Rivers Brown and a host of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Smith; her parents Charlie Ballard Ross and Anna Clark Ross; two sisters Anna Lou Ross and Beatrice Ross.
Pallbearers will be great nephews Ross Brown, Clint Brown, Hunter Brown, Reid Brown, Cody Pearson and special friends David Sanders and Richard Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Center Ridge Cemetery Fund, 7246 Hwy 39S, DeKalb, MS 39328 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
