Keith Quatman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 10, 2016.

Keith A. "Gus" Quatman, 59, of Ossian passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016. He was born on March 30, 1957 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Philip A. and Catherine (Goeke) Quatman. He worked as a teacher at ITT, owner of a NAPA Auto Parts store in Marion, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and most recently at Stoops Freightliner. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Yoder, American Legion Post 241, and served formerly as president of the Ossian's Men's Association. His wife, family, friends, faith, Cleveland Browns football, IU basketball, golf, and Nascar racing were the centers of his life. He was filled with such a great amount of love that he always had that love to share with all others. He unselfishly gave to others, whether it was his talents, financial support, or on those "rare" occasions, his opinion. He loved his nieces and nephews, and always would willingly drive to provide support for them in all of their endeavors. He always was quick with a smile and willing to do any job to help his family, friends, or community. You could always count on "Gus". He is already sorely missed and we can thank God for all the time we were allowed to share all of Gus's unique gifts. Surviving family include his wife of nearly 32 years and love of his life, Nancy; brothers, Tony (Debbie), Hank (Debbie), Jim (Terri) Jon (Ellen), Jerry, and Ed ( Paula) Quatman; sisters, Sister Jane Quatman, Pat (Tom) Scullin, Kit (Ken) Weir; and Uncle Gus to many many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his sister, Phyllis Rainey; niece, Carrie Rainey Gray; and father-in-law, Quentin Freiburger. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 14623 Bluffton Rd., Yoder. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, August 12, 2106 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian with a rosary service at 3:30 pm.

It is difficult to put into a few words the loss I feel when I think of Gus being gone. Gus and I were in the same class at ITT when we first met in September of 1975. A few years later we became EET Instructors at ITT and we started a basketball program, played, and later coached together. 22 years later we left ITT and didn't see each other as often. Kathy and I were honored to have Gus in our wedding. So many good times with a great friend! Love you Gus! God bless you and your family.

Nancy and the Quatman Family.............
With deepest regrets I send this message. The world was a better place with Gus in it. We shared many a good story, many a good laugh and many a fine pilsner at the Ossian Tavern over the years. We never know and understand God's plan...........but we must endure and keep the faith. God Bless you Nancy....

Dr. Edward Kimble

Sorry to hear of your loss. When I knew Gus at ITT he was friendly, fun and helpful. Got me out of a lot of jams, even drove me to Columbus, Ohio once to retrieve some needed equipment. In addition he was a good teacher. I used to stand at the door and listen to the instructors, he had a commanding presence, a good command of the principles, and he respected and commanded respect from the students. I saddens me to think of such a huge loss...

My condolences to the Quatman family. This is a shock to me and am very saddened by this. We worked and played together while at ITT Tech. I am sure that all who knew him are as shocked as I am. Although I had not seen him in years, I always considered Gus a good friend. Again, very saddened by this. May God bless him.
