A memorial service for Mary Manez (Nez) Snowden Hood will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Reverend Corey Fontan officiating.
Manez, 96 years young, died August 11, 2016 at Anderson's Hospital.
She was born October 7, 1919 to Jim and Agnes Pope Snowden of the Shucktown community, which she loved and where she lived most of her life.
One of the joys of her life was teaching children in Sunday school. An accomplished cook who was quick-witted, she was a gifted storyteller and was vitally interested in the world around her. She was patriotic and loved her animals. She loved music, especially old-time gospel singing.
She is survived by her beloved 'baby sister' Edwina Chisolm, by her children, daughter Carol Kinard Graham and son, Kendall Kinard and his wife Ann; Son-in-law Elwyn Graham and his wife Barbara; grandchildren Teresa Aycock, Jeri Rogers, Liza Gilton, and Sally Graham; her great grandchildren Andrew and Nicholas Webb, Miles Gilton, Chelsea Aycock, and Jamie, Jeffrey and Jordan Rogers, AND, as she would say, "at least four double-great-grandchildren!"
Her cherished nieces are Dianne Culpepper, Sandra Schwartz, Ruth Ethridge, and Laura Marshall. Her great-nephew is Ben Chisolm. She also left two special cousins Evelyn Samuelson and Thomas Snowden and her precious "telephone cousin" Jacquelyn Chapman of Aiken, SC. Her best friends are David and Donna Brillhart of Jonesborough, TN, Gloria Mattingly and Barry McMullen, and her good neighbors Janice Goodman and Nick.
Nez was preceded in death by husbands George J. Kinard, father of her children, and by Edwin Hood, her best friend; her beloved stepdaughter Dorothy Adams, nephews Jimmy Chisolm and David Thead, and many friends and family members whom she always kept in her heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fellowship Meal Ministry.
