Mr. Crit Messer age 81 of Cannon, KY departed this life on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in the Christian Health Center in Corbin. He was the widower of Helen Messer and the son of Ellis and Nancy (Hammons) Messer born to them on April 3, 1935 in Knox Co. Mr. Messer was a member of the Sinking Valley Baptist Church. He had been a maintenance supervisor and also was a retired evangelist and pastor. He pastored Jeff's Creek Baptist Church for a total of twelve years.
He is preceded in death by his wife Helen Messer, his parents, Ellis and Nancy Messer, one brother, Bob Gene Messer and two sisters, Mitty Alice Messer and Linda Mills.
Left behind to mourn his passing, his son Doug Messer and wife Lynn of Corbin, KY and his daughter, Christina Johnson and husband Harvey of Cannon, five brothers, Creed Messer and wife Jean of Louisville, Floyd Messer and wife Ima Jewell of Girdler, Larry Messer and wife Marsha of Cannon, Tip Messer of Hinkle and Alvin Messer and wife Lois of Greenroad, two sisters, Joycelene Farris and husband John of Cannon and Ona May Taylor of Bimble. He also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Crit Messer will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Dan Watkins officiating. Pallbearers will be family & friends. Burial will follow in the Bingham Cemetery at Cannon. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m.
