Judith (Judy) Kay Quillen Simms went to be with her Lord on August 24, 2016. Judy was born January 12, 1943 in Olney, Illinois to Eugene and Pauline (Steward) Quillen. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry R. Simms, on May 30, 1963 at Marion Christian Church in West Salem, Illinois. Larry and Judy began their married life in Boise, Idaho while Larry was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base just outside Mountain Home, Idaho. Their sons, John and Paul, were born while in Idaho. Upon their return to Illinois, they settled in West Salem where their daughter, Angela, was born. Judy was a member of Zion United Methodist church where she taught Sunday School for over thirty years and was a valued leader in the church. Judy worked for several local businesses in West Salem including Allen's Welding Service, Goldsmith's Home Furniture and The Apothecary Shoppe. Judy enjoyed serving others, spending time with her family, researching her family's genealogy with the help of Lois Goodson, Larry's sister, and studying the Word of God.
Judy is survived by her husband, Larry; her children, John (Christy Muhs) Simms, Paul (Sara Wenrick) Simms, and Angela (David) Shupe; and her grandchildren, Bethany (Matt) Witte, Joselyn (Patrick) Miller, Cale Simms, Nathan and Dasha Simms, and John, Emily, Grace and Grant Shupe. She is also survived by her siblings, Chuck (Lona) Quillen, Phyllis (Donald) Stover, Don (Tammy) Quillen, Jane (John) Frazier, and Karen Sue (Terry) Rittenhouse. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Pauline (Steward) Quillen and her sister, Sheron (Lee Barnhart).
Services will be held at Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem, Illinois with visitation on Sunday, August 28th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The funeral will be on Monday, August 29th at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Aaron Simms (nephew) officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Albion.
