Such a wonderful woman, teacher and mom! I was just a little girl at Wilbur Elementary when Miss Hein began teaching. My friends and I would go to her classroom at noon to play with her students. Yes, we skipped recess! She loved integrating her students well before integration was the norm. I especially became attached to a little girl named Rachel that Miss Hein loved dearly. We were so blessed to have her and Benjamin as part of our community for so long. As an adult, I lived in Davenport and guess who moved home? Melinda and Ben. So glad for all the love you shared with us all.

My heart is so sad for the loss of Melinda and her gifts. There are no words which make it better, only time changes this into an ache and longing for that hug you wish had once more. Wishing your family comfort and love.

Sue passed on this very sad news. I only knew Melinda when she was a high school student, but she was so impressive in her enthusiasm and kindness at an age when not all teenagers can demonstrate that. My sympathy to all of you...

Words just don't adequately describe what we all are feeling. Melinda was an inspiration, she was full of light, joy, love, patience, and the list goes on and on. She would credit that to the Lord always saying he would never give her more than she could handle and always telling each person she met how very very blessed she was. Her love for Ben and her family was evident in all she said and did. Her love for the students both in Creston and in Davenport. She is a true example of God's love. I wish I could be more like her. Though we know she is with Jesus we sure miss her here. Everyone's life that was touched by her is better because of her.

Melinda, my friend, you have been called home by Our Lord and Savior to be in "his Hands" for eternity. As a friend since childhood and in growing up with all of the Hein family, I know broken hearts and sorrow fill their souls. No one have I met with the spirit and passion for giving like Melinda's. So much can be learned from the gift Melinda had for acceptance, encouragement and love for everyone she met. What an inspiration for compassion and unconditional love. Melinda was never failing in her ability to nurture her family, students, and her son Ben with love and joy. My sincerest sympathy and condolences to Ilene and each of the Heins in the saddest of days. Melinda you will be truly missed my friend! Rest in peace!

I was saddened to hear that Melinda had passed away. I worked with her when she taught Special Education in Creston, I was one of her para-educators. She had a heart of gold, and she would do anything, for anybody, at anytime. I loved her attitude toward life, and I always loved it when she would bring Ben to school with her, what a beautiful relationship they had. I learned so much from her, and I will never forget all the wonderful memories we had together. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. RIP Melinda, and until we meet again.
