Anna M (Flanagan) Miller, 83, of Oneonta (and Rock City Falls, NY) passed away into the arms of her husband, Edward Miller and her parents on September 22, 2016. Ann spent her final days surrounded by her children and the caregivers that loved her.
Ann was born on November 29, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA to Hannah (Hamilton) Flanagan and Francis Flanagan. She and Ed Miller, childhood friends and sweethearts, attended The Nativity B.V.M Elementary School. After finishing Little Flower Catholic High School in 1951, Ann worked as a clerk at Food Fair Grocery and GB Goldman Paper Company for the next five years, as she waited for Ed to return from military service.
On October 27, 1953, Ann and Ed were married at the Nativity Catholic Church in Philadelphia, three days before Ed's deployment to Korea. She was Ed's main support during his many job transfers, being able to pack up an entire house and nine children with no complaints, only eye rolls and sighs. They finally settled in Otego, NY where they lived for 21 years before moving to Oneonta, NY to enjoy their retirement.
After twenty years and nine children, Ann re-entered the work force being employed as an administrative assistant at the Oasis, then at Amerigas in Oneonta. She happily retired in 1992 and enjoyed one year of solitude before Ed decided to join her in retirement bliss. Ann began her retirement learning how to swim at the age of 62 and enjoying her 22 grandchildren, attending all their activities and celebrations.
Ann is predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Ed, who passed in 2011. She was also greeted in heaven by her parents, Hannah and Frank, her sister, Catherine (Flanagan) Sheerin, and her three brothers, Frank Jr., Joe (Harold), and Bill Flanagan.
She is survived by her children, Edward F. Miller, Jr. (Nancy) of Oneonta, NY, Marianne Buscemi (Paul) of Valley Center, CA, Lorraine Tompkins (Bruce) of Manlius, NY, Cheryl Miller (Mark) of Oneonta, NY, Valerie Gray (Larry) of Rock City Falls, NY, Patrick Miller (Doraine) of Ballston Spa, NY, Michael Miller (Lorraine), Oneonta, NY, John Miller (Virginia) of Tarrytown, NY and Catherine Miller (Bob) of Rock City Falls, NY. Ann is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. And never forgotten by her good friends, Ron and Kathy Ranc.
Ann was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church until 2012 when she moved to Rock City Falls, NY and joined St. Paul's Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Because of her quick wit and Irish humor, Ann was a favorite at get togethers where everyone waited to see what she would say next. Coining the phrase "Annie-isms" which will follow her for many years.
Ann was fortunate enough to spend her last six months at the Village Green in Cohoes, NY, where she made friends (Joan, Margaret and Evelyn) and was loved by the many nurses, doctors and support staff who also welcomed her entire family into their circle. Ann created an extended family to include Debbie, Kelly, Holly, Bella, Bree, Tiffany, Khari, Fanio, Chris, Annie, Amelia, Kay, Linda, Dr. Jue and many more who were always with her and cared for her.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 beginning at 9:00am until 12:00pm at Lester R. Grummon's Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta, with Rev. David Mickiewicz pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ann's name to her favorite charity, Feed The Poor, P.O. Box 979005, Coconut Creek, FL 33097-9005.

Mom, it's been almost a year since you left us. I miss you with all my heart. I started working on your "bears' and have been overcome by your "smell". It is bitter sweet. I love smelling you once again but that also brings the anxiety of not having your presence with us. I miss you with all my heart and would once again love to pick up the phone and ask for your advice. I will love you forever Mom. I miss you

Mom I can't believe it's been six months since you left us. I miss you more than you know. You were the epitome of feminism before feminism was a "thing". I thank you for all your wisdom and strength you gave all your daughters. You are a bright star forever in my nighttime sky. I love you Mom and will miss you till we meet again. I love you. xo L

Ed, Val, Lorraine, Cheryl, Cathy, Pat, Mike and Jay and all of the other members of the extended Miller family that are much to numerous to list all here - I am so sorry to only now learn of the passing of your Mom. Had I known, I would have been there to pay my last respects to a very special soul. You all know so much better than I do how truly wonderful she was and I just want to thank you all for sharing her with me and the rest of the world as much as you did because she brought joy and love into all of our lives. It was truly a gift to get be her neighbor for so many years. The love she and your Dad had was a blessing to behold and showed me what was missing in my own life. As sad as I was to learn of her passing the first thought that came to me was seeing your Mom and Dad together again, as it was meant to be. My condolences for the loss I know you must all feel and thank you again for sharing this wonderful woman with us.

Dear Miller children, my sincerest condolences to you in the passing of your mom. I never knew her personally but had the opportunity to meet her on a couple of occasions, and just the short visits I did have with her, she made me feel like one of her children. May you all be comforted knowing she is at peace and home with her parents, husband and other family members and friends who passed before her. She may be gone but she will remain in your hearts forever and she would want nothing more than for her children to be strong and compassionate and to show love and kindness to each other and to all they encounter in the world. God Bless all of you.

Although I have not known Anna for terribly long, I can say that I have had the pleasure of being graced by her presence several times, and she was one of the nicest, funniest, and overall happy people that I have ever met. Love seemed to radiate from her, making all around her feel welcome. And I can say without a doubt, that she made the best damn brownies I have ever had in my entire life. She will be missed.

My condolences and heartfelt sympathy to all the Miller clan. Your mom was a formidable presence in your life and will be sorely missed. Ann definitely made an impression on me when she she made her trips out here to California. I have a feeling the eye rolling and sighs continue in heaven as she looks down on the antics of her children and grandchildren. The great grandchildren are too perfect right now!! Be at peace knowing she is with our Heavenly Father and Blessed Mother in heaven
