Lavern Mercer Ussery, age 82, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 3, 2016. She was a hairdresser in South Knoxville for many years. Lavern is preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Shirey. She is survived by daughters, Pamela Dyer; Leesa Romines (Michael); and Belinda Vaughn; son, Richard Shirey (Rebecca); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Myra McCroan; and brother, Harry Mercer. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Sherwood Chapel, 3176 Alcoa Highway with the funeral service to follow, Rev. Bill Stephens officiating. Entombment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.sherwoodchapel.com

Greg and Becky, Tim and I truly hate to hear of Laverns passing. We have many wonderful memories of all of us at the pool, having cookouts, and eating her famous Blackberry cobbler.
