Leonard "Lenny" B. Dolin, 62, died Monday morning, October 10, 2016, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 5, 1954, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Stanley and Miriam Dolin. He moved to Greensboro at age 10 from Chattanooga, TN, when his parents purchased longtime Greensboro business, The Art Shop.
A graduate of Grimsley High School and the University of South Carolina School Of Journalism, Lenny began a ten year career in radio at age 15 when he worked as an announcer for Greensboro radio stations WGBG and WBIG through high school. He worked in regional shopping mall management for many years, including being the manager of Hanes Mall in Winston Salem. Lenny returned to Greensboro in 1989 and purchased The Art Shop from his father, Stan. After 26 years of growing The Art Shop both locally and nationally with his wonderful staff, Lenny and Arlene sold the business in 2015 to long time manager Andy McAfee.
Lenny was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his love for tennis and cycling.
Surviving are Lenny's beloved wife of 41 years, Arlene, daughter, Miriam Young and husband, Chris of New York City; son, Adam Dolin of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughters, Alden and Celia Young of New York City; brother Barry Dolin and wife, Barbara of Marietta, GA; sister, Debbie Gilbert and husband Rob of Norcross, GA; sister, Carole Weiss of Columbus, OH; eight nieces and nephews, and six great-nieces and nephew.
The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Ed Green for his kind and skilled care that at many times exceeded the call of duty. We also wish to thank Dr. Rhonda Bitting, Dr. Ron Davis and all of the angels from Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for their compassion and care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Beth David Synagogue with Rabbi Eliezer Havivi officiating followed by burial at Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his memory to Beth David Synagogue, 804 Winview Drive, Greensboro, NC 27410, Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408.

To Carole Weiss, thank you for your email reply to my guest book post. In no way did I consider it intrusive. On the contrary, I was touched and charmed. My deepest condolences for the loss of your brother. My brothers mean the world to me and I cannot imagine the pain of losing a sibling. Wishing you the best!

Arlene and family, I am so sorry for your recent loss. I worked for Lenny at Belden Village Mall around 1982-83 as the Assistant Mall Mgr. Lenny was the one who hired me after the most interesting job interview I've ever had. It's the only interview where I've been asked to write an impromptu autobiographical essay. That was easy for me because I love to write! And I guess he must have like it because he hired me! I remember, soon after I started at the mall, that you and Lenny invited me to your home for dinner. I thought it was such a gracious gesture and I remember the Boston Creme Pie you had for dessert which was delicious! Even though Lenny and I were both so young back then and close to the same age, I remember his demeanor being so professional. In fact, we all called him "Mr. Dolin!" A very important link between me and Lenny though the years has been Lenny's dear friend, and my dentist, PJ Wells. When Lenny hired me, I had recently moved back to Canton from Houston and needed a dentist so he recommended his good friend, PJ. Dr. Wells is still my beloved dentist today and over the course of 30 plus years, during every dental appt, we've always had a ritual chat about what Lenny is up to. More recently, of course, those conversations were tinged with sadness over Lenny's health concerns. Lenny was a good man, and a good and fair boss. I will always appreciate him giving me the opportunity at the mall and, most of all, for recommending Dr. Wells. I wish you peace and healing in the days ahead Arlene.
