Clayton Palmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2016.

Clayton Robert Palmer, 55, of Old Saybrook, CT lost his life on October 19, 2016 after a long battle with a genetic lung condition. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. Clayton was born on June 14, 1961, and graduated from Lyme-Old Lyme High school. After earning his business degree from the University of Connecticut, Clayton started his first job in banking at the Norwich Savings Society and had a very successful banking career with Bank of America until his passing. Clayton battled an extremely rare lung disease for many years with strength and courage, even though it took a major toll on his body. He had many passions, but his favorite was his boat and the dozens of fishing expeditions and family trips that he planned. Clayton was on the Indian Town Association Board of Directors for 13 years and had many positive contributions to the association, including major work in the harbor for the boating community. Though he had many loves, Clayton's ultimate gift was his ability to provide for and demonstrate his unconditional love to his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Stacy Plucker Palmer, of Old Saybrook, CT, their children, Nicole Palmer of Old Saybrook, CT, Jonathan Palmer and his wife Samantha Palmer, and a granddaughter, Laura Laquerre Palmer all of West Warwick, RI. He is also survived by his mother, Lois Palmer-Alderson of Norwich, CT and is predeceased by he father Robert Palmer; four siblings, Sharon Quattlebaum and her husband Jerrell of Savannah, GA; Christine Riccio and her husband Thomas of Clinton, CT; Cathy Evers and her husband Jim of Falmouth, ME; and Michael Palmer and his wife Bonnie of Waterford, CT as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 25 from 4:00-8:00 at the Old Saybrook Swan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alpha-1 Foundation either online or by mail to 3300 Ponce deLeon Blvd, Coral Gabel, Florida 33134.

Stacy and Palmer Family, I worked with Clayton for several years when he commuted to Providence. He was a wonderful team leader and a talented and thoughtful professional who worked hard for his clients. I remember him speaking proudly of his children who were young at the time and of his joy in being on the water with his family. We kept in touch over the years and he always spoke about his wonderful family. I am so sorry for your loss. Dori Conlon

Dear Palmer Family,
I am so sad to hear of the passing of Clayton. I worked with Clayton for 10 years at Fleet Bank (BOA). He was a great person to work with and I learned a lot from him. Clayton was a generous person, hosting gatherings for his colleagues near his home in Indian Town Beach. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this most difficult time.

With Sympathy,

Palmer Family,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Clayton at Fleet and Bank of America in Hartford. He was a great guy. I fondly remember our department picnics to Old Saybrook. It was very generous for Clayton to host the gatherings and it was very evident how much he loved Old Saybrook and his boat.

My deepest sympathy.

I am deeply sadden by the news and may he rest in peace. I had the privilege of working with Clayton via long distance. Due to his health, travel to Canada was difficult and limited but we developed a great deal of mutual trust with each other.

Despite his health limitations he was a gentleman throughout our relationship, never holding back on his professionalism, humanity, knowledge and laughter. I only wish I had the opportunity to have spent more time with him.

My sincere condolences to family and friends he has left behind as I trust he will be deeply missed.

Stacy, Nicole and Jonathan,

I worked with Clayton at B of A in the Canada branch which was one of many offices that he managed. I am proud to have had the opportunity to know Clayton, he had so many great qualities that he used to help others. Seeing Clayton blend a competitive nature, knowledge, and genuine caring for others was an inspiration that helped me grow personally. You have my condolences on your loss, please know that the quality of your husband and father is recognized and remembered by those that worked with him.
