I am sorry for your loss of Jimmy....I always enjoyed greeting "Mr. Shay" every day at CFS. He was such a good man! You mean so very much to me, Geannie. I look up to you and want to be more like you; your devoted kindness to children and their souls. You are precious to me and always, always will be.
Thank you for accepting me in when my family was brand new at CFS. We love you. Always remember how much you are loved and the amazing positive difference you have made and continue to make in my life and so many lives.

I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am in the passing of your beloved Jimmy. You were a loving couple, brought together by our gracious heavenly Father and held firmly in the palm of His almighty hand.
It was easy to see how much you loved Jimmy and how much he adored you. You shared that love with family and friends. Though we are over 300 miles apart, you remain in my heart, as will Jimmy. I know he's in a much better place, but it is very painful for those left behind to cherish his memory.
We will always have great memories of him. I especially remember his nickname for me, "Sharn," even Diana, Roger's sister, remembers that! :-) I remember how Jimmy loved animals and took care of them. And I remember how he loved to tease you, Geannie. :-) Also, I remember his deep faith in God.
You both welcomed us with open arms when we arrived, knowing no one. We will never forget that. You included us in family gatherings and Bible studies. You made us feel welcome. THANK YOU!
We have never forgotten the Shays, and never will. We look forward to seeing Jimmy (and the rest of you!) in our heavenly home one day. Love and blessings,

In the short time that I have been taking care of Jimmy, I have been blessed by the love that you have for each other. My heart goes out to you and my thoughts are with you at this sorrowful time. It was a true blessing to meet you and your family. (Words from my sweet Jimmy's wonderful bath aide.)

So deeply sorry for your loss. "He is with the Lord, and the Lord is with you." Praying for you and your family. (Note to myself and my children: These few words brought me so much comfort during this journey and I repeated them to myself many times. They are worth putting in your heart. Bunches of love...)

We were so saddened to see Jimmy's obituary in Friday's paper. We have lost someone who touched the lives of so many as evidenced at his celebration of life! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless you and keep you in His love.

In the ever-changing circumstances of life, there is a faithful, never-changing God in control. Every day begins and ends with His purpose - there isn't a detail that escapes His eye, a trial that doesn't touch His heart or a single experience beyond His compassion.

I am sitting here thinking about how precious Jimmy was in God's eyes and, how together for many years, you two were weaving a testimony of faithfulness to the unseen God, how you created memories, grew closer to each other and your Maker, laughed and wept together. What a beautiful legacy to pass on to your children and grandchildren!
Please know after your grieving the sun is shining and believe that God had good plans ahead! Years ago I saw a plaque in a gift shop. It said, "Come, my love, grow old with me; the best is yet to be." The moment you step from this world to the next and spot Jimmy beside Jesus, you will say, "Yes! and Amen!" You may not hear it now, but all of heaven is applauding you - Yep, it's true! Your friend,

Singing out a song to my dear sweet friend, Jimmy. I'm a better person because of knowing you. Thank you for showing me the joy of music and sharing it with others, teaching me about adventurous eating, and being such a sparkling example of Christian love and encouragement. You are an amazing father, grandfather, and dear friend to so many. So many days, your smiling face would greet me as I came into school, hands full of stuff. You would put your hands on your hips with the sparkle in your eye and say, "What are you up to now?" Or when life was getting the best of me and I couldn't hold the tears at bay, you would put an arm across my shoulders, share some words of wisdom, and reassure me that it was going to be ok. Thank you God for loaning us your faithful son, Jimmy. He will be dearly missed. I hold my glass in the air and toast to one of the finest. We will gather our group soon and karaoke in your honor.

Something Special I Would Like
You to Know About My Spouse
Geannie has a special heart for helping people, especially kids. She will give all she has to help kids. Her tender heart gives whatever is necessary for children, including her money and time. And she loves to learn! She even went to college at the age of 60, because helping others by teaching (or in any other capacity, for that matter) is what is on her heart. Going back to school was really hard, but look how many people, kids, and parents she has belssed and continues to belss with her heart as a result of that commitment! She has no idea the number of lives she's touched and how she has helped them grow and mature through her wisdom, not to mention how she has helped our own kids grow, and even me in a lot of ways. She is truly blessed by God! Whatever she does is out of what God has placed on her heart, and she always keeps Him as her main focus. These are just a few of the things people need to know about her!

A Special Message for Geannie
Mom, you are truly my best friend. We haven't always agreed, but I know I can depend on you to be there for me. I love how we have been able to sit down and talk it out so we can make it work, and how we have worked at school and home to help our kids grow and be responsible adults. Through the heartaches of raising kids and trying to make a living, God always showed us the way when we didn't know how. We didn't always think the answer was fast enough, but God knew what was best. A strong life partner and best friend is what makes a good marriage, and you are the best friend I could ever ask for. I could not have accomplished what I did over the last 46 years without you by my side.

Jimmy had a smile that was contagious! That was my very first thought of Jimmy along with, "wow! what a handsome man!" The first time I met Jimmy was at his home while on Justin's, my oldest son, 2nd grade field trip to the Shay home. Geannie was his second grade teacher at the time. Jimmy had us all captive as he showed us his pigeons and how he had them trained. It was pretty fascinating! However, the thing that I will remember the most about Jimmy is his amazing smile and ability to make those around him feel special. It was a gift! I am thankful I had the blessing of being on the receiving side of that! What an incredible man!

My Daddy
When I was little all I wanted was
to be just like my daddy.
I wanted to do everything he did.
I wanted to be able to love like him,
to be crazy like him
and to have his wisdom.
The twinkle in my daddy's eye sparked
wonder in my heart.
My daddy is full of life and enjoys
the little things.
He listens to my pointless stories
and holds me when I cry.
With one hug it was all okay.
My daddy is gentle and majestic
like the wind.
He warns you with love but knows
you must learn on your own.
He is there to catch you when you fall,
And he never says "I told you so."
My daddy is strong.
He is honest.
He is my rock.
I know that I am his treasure.
My daddy's love for me is purer
than any other love.
He is more precious to me than
any jewel found in this world.
My daddy and I share a bond
that cannot be broken,
or touched or seen,
but it is there.
The way my daddy cares for me
is what has made me, me.
My daddy showed me he loved me
all throughout my life
by everything he did.
I never saw what he was really saying
when he would tell me to
get the brakes checked.
Then it was annoying, but now I know
he was saying, "I love you."
I love my daddy and am lucky
to have him.
If this is how my Heavenly Father is then
I cannot wait to spend eternity with
both of them.

I have wanted to do this for years. Could you please tell Jimmy that I love him very much and that I'm very, very, very glad that he's been a part of my life for the last 42 years and hopefully more to come. He's been more of a father to me than any man I've ever known and the best father I could have ever asked for. He's shown me what unconditional love is. He's shown me how to be patient and shown me what it means to be a man. And I can never thank him enough for everything that he's always done for me. There's a song that says it better than I could ever say it. In the song it just says I hope I can be half the dad that he didn't have to be. I love you both very much and I'll see you when you get back from Alabama.
