Mary Virginia Welch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2016.

Mary Virginia (Jennie) Keller Welch died on Friday, October 21, 2016, in Corinth, Miss. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Corinth, followed by a funeral at 3:00 p.m. and a private burial.

Born February 14, 1930, in Barnett's Crossroads, Ala., Welch was the eldest child of Alton Eugene and Jewell Barnett Keller. She founded and served as the editor of "On the Go Mobile" magazine before moving with her family to Little Rock, Ark. where she owned her own business, Computer Composition. While in Arkansas, she supported the love of her life and medical student husband in many ways, most notably when she served as national president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Student American Medical Association. In 1971, she and her family moved to Corinth, Miss. where she worked alongside her husband as she assisted in his medical practice for many years. She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church and the Corinth Music and Garden Clubs.

Miss Jennie, as her doting husband referred to her, served as the ultimate hostess as she cooked and shared food with others, played bridge with her friends and entertained fellow music club members. Above all she loved God and she loved her family. She was happiest when all of her people were gathered together as she hosted her favorite party of all, Thanksgiving day. This past Thanksgiving she hosted her biggest celebration yet, complete with four great granddaughters snuggled in her lap.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carl Chapman Welch; and brother, Alton David (Bo) Keller. Surviving her are sister Susie Keller Newman; sons Samuel B. Welch (Karen), Ernie Welch (Patti), Carl Chapman Welch, Jr. (Jennifer), grandchildren Annie Wilhite Richardson (Jason), Zeke Wilhite (Haley), Mary Lee Welch Smith (Clayton), great grandchildren Maris Elam Richardson, Margo Taylor Richardson, Willow Bond, Molly Kathleen Smith; honorary family members Annie Bell Barton, James Otis Barton; nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family would like to thank the Mississippi Care Center for their excellent and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Corinth or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).Arrangements under the direction of McPeters Funeral Directors, Corinth, MS.
