Lena Schmalriede passed away at the age of 91. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford with the Rev. Tom Beers officiating. Burial will follow at St Paul Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, October 30, at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor.Lena Schmalriede was born in Coryell County on April 5, 1925 to August and Bertha (Gaskamp) Schraeder. She attended Prairie Chapel School.She was baptized July 12, 1925 and confirmed on April 12, 1939. She married Ben Schmalriede July 20, 1946. She was a longtime employee for Walls Manufacturing. She lived on a farm for many years and was an avid gardener. She helped with meals-on-wheels and was a volunteer at Westview Manor in her later years when she moved to town.She was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford where she helped and volunteered, especially in the kitchen.She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Schmalriede in 1990; her parents, August and Bertha Schraeder; three brothers, Bill Schraeder, Albert Schraeder, Eddie Schraeder; and two sisters, Sophia Berger and Marie Willmann.Living relatives include one brother, Bennie Schraeder of Coryell City; one sister, Emma McDougal of Clifton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
