Gloria (Hintz) Tigano, 92, cherished mother and adored grandmother, passed away peacefully Friday, November 18, 2016. Gloria was born April 27, 1924 in Detroit, MI, to Wanda (Snarski) and Joseph Hintz. She grew up surrounded by an extended family filled with musicians, artists, writers and scholars, and lived what she often described as a vibrant "You Can't Take It With You"childhood. She attended public schools in Detroit and then the University of Michigan as a Journalism Major. She and her mother relocated to New York City and eventually settled in Rye, NY, where she met and married Patrick N. Tigano in April 1952. Together they raised their family and once their daughters were in high school, Gloria embarked on a second career in retail, opening "The Porcelain Bird Gift Shoppe", a well known fixture on Elm Street. In 1990 Gloria and Patrick retired to Venice, FL, building a new home in the Waterford Golf Community. She enjoyed antiquing, reading, painting and dining out with friends. But her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren. In spite of her recent illness, we are grateful she was able to attend and fully enjoy her elder granddaughter Lucy's wedding. We will miss her generosity, gift of gab and sense of humor.
Gloria was predeceased in July 2016 by her husband of 64 years, Patrick,, and is survived by her daughters Patrice Domenie (Douglas) of Lyme, CT and Cynthia Lewis (Tim) of Valley Village, CA; as well as her grandchildren Charles Domenie, Lucy Domenie Solari (Dominic), Henry Domenie, Derek Lewis, Kristen Lewis, and Daniel Lewis.
The family would like to give a special and heartfelt "thank you" to the nursing staff at Chestelm Health and Rehabilitation Center in Moodus, CT and to the entire Hospice staff at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT for their exceptional care and kindness shown towards Gloria.
