Allen D. "Pete" Stetzel, 85 of Roanoke passed away at 9:24 am on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at his residence. Pete was a 1949 graduate of Roanoke high school. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 in Germany. He retired for International Harvester after 33 years of service and had his own roofing business A.D. Stetzel Roofing. Pete loved to play cards, camp, hike, go mushroom hunting, and berry picking. He enjoyed making maple syrup, jelly and apple butter, and was known for giving it away. Other hobbies of Pete included square dancing, horse shoes, and bowling. He enjoyed watching and reading westerns as well as nature animals and flowers. He loved his family, and all of his grandchildren but most of all his sweetie. He loved all of her cooking but most of all her Pies and ice cream.
Allen was born on March 15, 1931 in Huntington, the son of Dale and Bernice (Rupert) Stetzel. His parents preceded him in death.
He was united in Marriage to Dorothy M. Ley on January 30, 1954 in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons: Alan (Sue) Stetzel of Angola and David (Ellie) Stetzel of Fort. Wayne; two daughters: Debra (Daniel) Sorg of Roanoke, and Pamela (Chris) McWhirt of Ft. Wayne; two Sisters: Dortha Sowers of Huntington, and Nancy Buckingham of Huntington; seven grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister: M. Eloise Beck; and two brothers: Leroy Stetzel, and Earl W. Stetzel.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 29, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. With a rosary service at 2:45 pm
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul's Catholic Church
Interment will take place at a later date
Memorial donations can be made out to St. Therese Catholic Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
