Marcelina Martinez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 29, 2016.

Marcelina "Wali" Martinez, The Tamale Lady, 83, Colorado City, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Monday, November 28, 2016.
She was born on March 24, 1933 to Luis and Rosa Sanchez Balderas in San Antonio, Texas.
Wali was a woman who was devoted to her God and to her family. A stay-at-home mom at heart, she made sure to spend as much time with her children and grandchildren as possible. In her younger days when she was not with her children, she could be found in the cotton fields or wheat fields helping her husband. Her faith in God was evident in every aspect of her life, she prayed the rosary daily, taught summer school to her children and cooked in the convent for the nuns.
She was a cancer survivor for over 20 years, battling different stages throughout and doing her part to help with finding a cure, even running a 5k Race for the Cure where she finished in 1st place for ages 70 and over. She was also a very giving woman that never met a stranger, many of whom were recipients of her fresh Tamales. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and being out in the yard.
Marcelina is survived by her children; Luis Martinez and wife Donna of Brownfield, Victoria Martinez of Colorado City, Martha Martinez of Colorado City, and Mary Alvarez and husband Robert Sr. of Breckenridge, as well as by 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings; Luis Balderas and wife Yolanda, David Balderas and wife Teresa, Reuben Balderas and wife Rosalinda, Olga Balderas, Gilbert Balderas and wife Pat, Edward Balderas and wife Mary, Dan Balderas, Gloria Martinez and husband Hilario, and Luisa Naranjo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rafael Martinez, and by her siblings; Ernestina Perez, Andy Balderas, Consuelo Valdez, Lawrence Balderas, Loisa Trejo, Alejandra Garcia, and Maria Eva Rodriguez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church of Colorado City on Thursday, December 1st at 10 a.m. with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating, burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, November 30th from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7p.m. at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
