Gary E. Houck, age 72, of Norwich passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at his home. Gary was born in Norwich on February 18, 1944 to Doris (Bishop) and Edwin Lee Houck. Gary had two children from his marriage to Sandra (Deady) Moore.
Gary worked for many years at Proctor and Gamble, later working with his sons, Terry at McDonald's and Shawn at Walmart. Gary had a lifelong love of animals. For much of his life Gary kept pet dogs and cats, and one pet turkey. Gary was an avid reader, reading everything with printed words. Gary had a special interest in history, especially Abraham Lincoln and Amelia Earhart. Gary loved pulling in radio programs to listen to; he was a fan of Elvis and Johnny Cash. He shared his love of films with his family, particularly the Rocky series. Gary enjoyed riding motorcycles, once riding to Tennessee along-side his son Shawn. People said when Gary resembled Mickey Rooney, which got him the name Uncle Mickey from his nieces and nephews.
Gary is survived by his sons, Shawn (Veronica) of Norwich and Terrance (Christy) of Mount Vision; his brother Edwin of Guilford; his sister Charene (Phillip) Price of Sherburne, his sisters-in-law Karen Houck of England, Mary Simpson of Florida; his grandchildren Cameron, Skye, Terissa, Jared, and Joshua, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Gary was pre-deceased by his father and mother, his brother Gordon, his sister-in-law Beverly Houck and his granddaughter Presley.
A memorial service for Gary will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 6, at St. Paul's Church, 30 Pleasant St. Norwich.
Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich.

My sorrow to all of Gary's family, especially to Charene and Phil with whom we have come close in recent days. I am thankful for the years of Gary's friendship - first begun with the closeness our family had with your mother, Doris, and then continued greatly during the years I worked with the City. May indeed the Lord be your comfort in tender ways in these days.

Really saddened to hear of Gary's passing. He was dad to two of my dearest childhood friends, Shawn and Terry, and I only have fond and humorous memories of a person who truly was a kind, decent man. My thoughts are with the Houck family, and I hope Gary is at peace.
