James Dewey Thomas, Jr., 85, of St. Cloud, Fl., formerly of Malden, WV, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at home.
Jimmy was born in Charleston on August 27, 1931, to the late James D. Sr. and Emma O. Campbell Thomas. He was an Air Force Veteran and was a retired Maintenance Mechanic with the WV Air National Guard with 37 years of service.
He was a 1949 graduate of DuPont High School where he was a member of the Band and during that time he formed a band called the “Starlighters.” While at the WV Air National Guard he was also a member of the Bag Pipe Band. Before moving to Florida, Jimmy attended the Kanawha Salines Presbyterian Church in Malden.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Thomas and daughter, Vickie McMillian.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Thomas; daughters, Nancy (Frank) McCartney and Tammy (Bobby) Lipscomb, all of Malden; sister, Jeanette Dodd of Kings Tree, SC; grandchildren, Amanda Nichols, Shannon Laws, Gavin McCartney, Natalie Casto, Emma and Noah Lipscomb; several great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Alex Ford officiating. Burial will follow with Military Rites at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

I was sorry to hear of Jimmys' passing. I knew him as 'Dewey' when I worked with him at the Air Guard in the sixties. He made working there a more pleasant experience.
