Joseph B. "Joe" Stoody, Jr., 76, of Fort Wayne, passed away, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home with his family at his side. He was born September 23, 1940 in Fort Wayne to the late Joseph and Veronica (Bensman) Stoody. He worked as a land surveyor for many years, owning his own business, Stoody and Associates. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and White Sox. He was also a Chicago Blackhawks fan, as he played hockey as a youth and senior. Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Sheila R. (Gerardot) Stoody of Fort Wayne; children, Joe A. Stoody of Bluffton, Brian J. (Amy) Stoody of Fort Wayne, Jennifer R. (Calvert) Miller of Fort Wayne, and Jacob T. Stoody of Bluffton; brother, James (Mary) Stoody of Fort Wayne; sister, Patricia (Lee) Klein of Warsaw; and 7 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Thomas Stoody. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46819 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 with the rosary during evening session. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Turnstone Center's Parkinson Division, Visiting Nurse, or Masses.

Sorry to hear about Joe's passing. I worked for Joe in the mid 90's and he was the one that really got me started in the land surveying field. He was a great teacher, a man with high standards and had a great sense of humor. These are all things that I try to pass onto my employees. I catch myself quoting his one liners quite often.

Every day when I reported to work I hoped I would be assigned to Joe's crew.
