Gilbert "T.T." Silvia Avila age 91, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Our Lady's Haven surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Mello) Avila.
Gilbert served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was the owner of the T.T. Gillie Fishing Vessel until his retirement in 1983. He loved spending time down at the docks, working in his yard, enjoyed cooking for his family, and playing Black Jack at the casino, but most of all he loved spending time in Florida with his family.
Survivors include three children: Eileen Slone and her husband Doug of Dartmouth, Brenda Sutherland and her husband Scott of Port St. Lucie, FL, Randall Avila of Dartmouth, two grandchildren: Sara Arruda of FL, Shandrie Slone of Dartmouth, three great grandchildren: Veronica and Paige Arruda, Ryan Rodriques, two great-great grandchildren: Ayden and Gavin Rodriques and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Kym Avila and the grandfather of the late Lisa Bettencourt. He was predeceased by nine siblings.
His visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 5-8pm at the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth. His funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 10am at St Mary Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth. Burial in St John Cemetery, New Bedford.
