Papa, I love you so much. You were an awesome grandfather. Many of my best memories growing up are of hanging out with you. You had plenty of life lessons and jokes. I remember you teaching me how to build stuff. I helped you build your sunroom, workshop, and retaining wall in your front yard. You loved animals. I remember catching toads and lizards in your backyard. At night we fed possums and raccoons leftovers from your fridge. A few years ago Holli and I fed the largest possum I've ever seen left over Mexican food. That was hilarious watching him waddle off with his belly dragging the ground. I remember catching all the crappie at the lake and having fish-frys at your house afterwards. We'd spend all night swimming in your pool. You could eat the most catfish and hush puppies I have ever seen anyone eat. We used to always find somewhere to eat catfish. You always tried to make us laugh like the time you went down a water slide at Wet and Wild and totally busted at the bottom of the slide. You always had a parlor trick to make someone laugh like rattling your dentures for Raelee and Fisher. I always looked forward to Christmas Eve at your house. I will never forget you and will strive to work as hard as you did. I love you Papa.

Papa, I love you. Life is harsh without you here with us. I think about you every day. I hope that you know how proud I am to have you as a grandfather and how much I cherish the days we spent together. I have no bad memories with you and I hope that I brought happiness to your life as you have mine.

Becky, So sorry about your Dad. I always loved his hearty laugh and his love for desserts, especially Red Velvet Cake, and my Mother's popcorn balls at Halloween. He loved concrete! It was all over your backyard. He was very particular about his work which showed his talent in construction. I will miss your Dad Ernie and know you will also. A lot of great memories growing up with the Gilley's & Sumruld's on West Cliff Dr., Euless Texas.

My big brother was truly one of a kind. A kind, generous, humorous, talented man who never met a stranger. My memories are filled with his escapades, laughter, one liners and love for his family. I will miss Big Ernie's companionship, jokes, shared times and unique perspective on life and living it to the fullest. He did and I will follow his lead. Lord, watch out for my big brother and be careful or he'll have all of heaven laughing, and rolling on the floor in stitches.
That's not a bad thing.

Favorite memories of Papa's house: catching frogs and watching them swim in buckets of water, going to the little garden getaway and listening to the wind chimes, swimming in the pool, climbing on everything, fish frys, Christmas Eve, counting how many presents everyone had to see who had the most, watching Santa come into town on Channel 5, watching Ren and Stimpy on Friday nights, searching for Bobby (the cat). I loved going to Papa's house! It was a place where we could play outside all day and get filthy dirty! It was a great place!

I remember how much fun it was to be around Ernie when I was a little girl and he lived with us in Albuquerque. I know he was one of Mother and Daddy"s favorite nephews, (Beatrice and Walter Burns). I will always smile when I think of him. May God's blessing be with you. Judy and Skip Finley
