Helen was born February 12, 1931 in New York, NY. She is the daughter of the late Jim and Panagiota (Pipitsa) Metropoulos, originally from Kalamata, Greece.

After graduation from Georgia State University, Helen sailed to Europe with Kiki Petropole of Rome, GA, traveling across France, Italy and Greece in the 1950s. From that point on, she was an avid traveler, exploring the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

During her early career in shipping, Helen worked in Miami for The Greek Line and for Eastern Steamship Company. Helen later held several roles in First National/Wachovia Bank, at one point becoming President of the Atlanta Women’s Banking Association. She eventually became a Finance Zone Administrator (Controller) of the East Region for Siemens Medical Systems, retiring in the 1990’s. During her career, Helen mentored many ambitious young women.

An active member of Philoptochos (Greek Orthodox Ladies Society), Helen served on the Board of the Philoptochos of the Metropolis of Atlanta, as well as on the National Board. Through her rewarding work with the church and especially the Metropolis of Atlanta, she was honored with several awards including the Archangel Michael Medal.
